Is it an automatic? if it is check the fluid level is it low? if yes add fluid to the transmisson, if the fluid is a brownish color and smells like onions then the fluid is burnt and you will need to change the filter and 12 quarts of transmisson fluid. This is going to be the cheepest fix that you can do to find out if this is the problem, one the fluid is changed and it still does it then the bands and clutches are going out or the tork converter is going bad regardless it will have to be checked by a transmisson shop. the fluid and filter will cost you about $70.00 if you do the job yourself.
