Hi yes the transmision fluid starts to brake down and gets thinner, normally it is best changed every 30,000 miles ( some say 60,000 ) but i find that it starts to burn and thin arround 30,000 so best to replace it early, you can use MERCON fluid which is best for this vehicle......hope this helped

I have a 1991 Geo Tracker with an auto transmission. It is slow to shift into reverse. How can I adjust the bands?

Question edited for clarity.

Try changing the auto transmission fluid, or at least topping it up. The demands of plowing snow are pretty ******* transmissions. Fully changing the fluid comes with its own problems. The best way is to drain the fluid, carefully measure and replace it with the same amount plus a couple of measured tablespoons extra.

What type and how much transmission fluid goes into the transaxle of a 2010 Dodge Journey diesel 6 speed Auto and where can I get a service kit for it

Transmission fluid is the lubricant for all the moving parts that make up your vehicle's transmission. Due to the heat generated in the transmission, the fluid can break down over time. What type of transmission fluid you need depends on your vehicle. Your car's manual provides transmission fluid service requirements. Regular transmission service is necessary to keep your car on the road. That's why O'Reilly Auto Parts has the transmission fluid your vehicle needs. email me for more information [email protected]

1988 chevy 4x4 k1500 auto tranny wont shift into 2nd, 3rd etc

Check the sensors on the transmission. May just be corrosion on the sensors or it may be a faulty sensor. Also, the torque converter bearing may have went bad due to the running it on low transmission fluid.

Can i change the transmission fluid? if so, where, how, and how much fluid?

This is for auto trans fluid change only....

1Rise the front end of the car and pull E-brake. (Please use a car stand to hold car up )

2.Remove trans drain plug let fluid drain out into a oil pan.
k42282_27.jpg 3.Once fluid has finish draining out, reinstall drain plug and lower the car down.
4. Remove the dipstick (yellow loop) from the transmission located on top and in the back of trans. You might have use a flashlight to see it. Dipstick is hard to see if this is the fist time you're looking for it.
5. use a funnel and add 3.1qt of ATF fluids.(auto trans fluids only)
6. Insert the dipstick into the transmission and you're done.
7.Go racing :)

good luck.

Does a mercedes benz 2007 350 CLK convertiable have a 722.9 transmission? would you use BG ATF synthetic auto transmission fluid in this model at the 40 thousand mile trans service?

If you don't have synthetic in it now I woundn't, because you can not get all the fluid out with a regular transmission fluid change. Your transmission holds 14 to 15 quarts and when they do a fluid and filter change they replace about 5 quarts from the system.

1998 SUNFIRE GT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

There are 3 transmissions that could be in your car,the 3 speed auto and 4 speed auto overdrive, and of course the manual 5 speed. The 3 speed is designated the 3T40,the 4 speed auto is the 4T40E trans. To check the fluid level, first, the car has to be warmed up to at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The car has to be raised in the air,as there is a steel plug in the trans case that has to be removed to check the fluid level. The plug takes an 11 mm or 7/16" socket or wrench and is located on the passenger side of the trans case, near where the passenger side axle engages into the trans. The procedure is to warm the car up to at least 100 degrees, engage the shifter into each gear selection pausing for about 5 seconds in each gear, then remove the plug.If fluid drips out,it is full.If no fluid drips out,add fluid through the top of the trans after removing the red plastic cap,and make sure to use a long funnel to avoid a mess.Add fluid until it drips out the hole. When done, replace the plug and cap.Just a note,a transmission does not "use" fluid like an engine uses oil.If you have to add fluid, that means there is a leak that needs to be repaired.Good luck
