Are you asking about the door lock cylinder or the ignition switch?
If its the door try some wd40 in there.
And for both, make sure you try another key too.
If you have already tried these and answer the questions above I may be able to farther help you.

Next time it would be nice if you could be more specific in which lock cylinder you mean AND ASK FOR MORE HELP like I offered before you rate this with a 1.

I said if my answer did not help and you already tried another key I would help more.

But you fixed it and that is good.

You punched it with a screwdriver and now need a new cylinder instead of asking and saving yourself that problem but its good that you fixed it your way.

    Thank You,

When the key is in the ignition, It won't go back to the Run position from the start position causing a grinding sound to happen.

Sounds like a bad spring in the ignition cylinder or the ignition switch itself isn't returning the key and switch to the Run position as it should. Most any auto repair facility can check and replace the switch for you. Note that the ignition lock cylinder (where you put the key in and turn) is NOT the switch. The switch is connected by a linkage up to the lock cylinder. The cylinder moved the linkage and the linkage moves the switch.

It would not hurt to squirt some WD-40 or other spray lubricant in the lock cylinder to see if that resolves the problem. Don't use lithium grease though, only use a light lubricating oil spray, and don't go crazy with it. Just a couple of squirts.

2009 HHR Standard (not automatic) Key Stuck in Ignition

FYI this is now a free dealer fix--Service Bulletin--not a recall. chevy sent letters reregarding issue. Mine was the lock cylinder housing was faulty, the piece that holds the springs to the pieces in for the key shape poped out. temp fix is you can unplug wiring harness under steer wheel to disable the car and remote will still lock door and alarm still works. Of course mine went out on a saturday afternoon. you can remove the lock cylinder yourself and take to locksmith, they can fix the cylinder probably for under 10 bucks. i luv it a 16000 car stuck because 1/8" by 1/2" piece of metal comes loose.

My ingnition lock is stuck in the on position and i cant move it back the car wont shut off because of it how do i fix it. Its a 1986 olds cutlass

Sorry to say the tumblers in your ignition lock cylinder are jambed causing the key to be stuck in it. A new lock cylinder is the only fix for this. Any major auto parts store sells the lock or any GM Dealership Parts Department can get you one also

'95 rodeo cant turn the key, the key is not stuck, the cylinder is

Try turning the steering wheel while trying to turn the ignition. Didn't work? Can you remove the key? Use some WD40 with the tube and spray a little in. Put the key in, pull it out, repeat several times. Put the key in and wiggle the ignition lock back and forth.(try while wiggling the steering wheel back and forth, too.) Still won't move? Try pulling the key out just a small fraction of an inch and try turning the ignition.

Still no solution, time to give up and call a locksmith.
