Check around you fuel filter its on the very top at the front some have a valve on the filter housing that have had problems leaking. check around your filter housing good
the diesel engine is a 6.0L or a 6.4L? because the 6.0L don't use electronic throttle control. they control the demand of diesel threw the high pressure oil system they have a sensor call injector pressure regulator. this sensor is responsible of maintain the proper pressure in the high pressure oil system so that the engine could start . i also suggest you to check if it is any leak on the high pressure oil system or if the low pressure system is delivering the pressure required for the high pressure system to work properly. to do that you most have a scan tool. also you can check the pressure of the diesel pump that its in the chassis to eliminate the high pressure oil system as the cause of your concern. if u don't have the proper gauges to check the pressure of the diesel pump you could remove the cap of the small fuel filter that is next to the oil filter remove the filter and put the ignition switch in the on position and see in the container ifyou haveafastorslowfilling. if you encounter that the filling is too slow then your problem is with the fuel diesel pump that is on the chassis this pump is called HFCM, Horizontal Fuel Control Module
it should unscrew then screw on the new one but make sure to rub a little transmission fluid on the sea and fill the filter with deisel once you tighten it down it should be ready to run
Your fuel filter housing sits in the engine valley, there is a drain valve on it also has a fuel pressure regulator, may be leaking at one of these points or the hose going into the housing from the tank. Take the cover off that says POWERSTROKE on it, start the vehicle,, get a mechanics mirroer. you may be able to see where it is leaking . Hope this is helpful
Diesel Engines
The 6.9L and 7.3L diesel engines use a one-piece spin-on fuel filter. Do not add fuel to the new fuel filter. Allow the engine to draw fuel through the filter.
Remove the spin-on filter by unscrewing it counterclockwise with your hands or a strap wrench.
Clean the filter mounting surface.
Coat the gasket or the replacement filter with clean diesel fuel. This helps ensure a good seal.
Tighten the filter by hand until the gasket touches the filter mounting surface.
Tighten the filter an additional 1⁄2 turn.
NOTE: After changing the fuel filter, the engine will purge the trapped air as it runs. The engine may run roughly and smoke excessively until the air is cleared from the system.
I HAVE A 99 F-350 WITH THE 7.3 POWERSTROKE AND I GOT A LEAK FROM THE FILTER CANISTER ALSO, AND MY PROBLEM ENDED UP BEING THE FUEL/WATER SEPARATOR VALVE ( SITS ON THE BACK OF CANISTER ON PASSENGER SIDE AND HAS A YELLOW KNOB) THE DEALER WANTED LIKE $80.00 BUCKS FOR IT...BUT I TOOK IT OFF AND REPLACED THE O-RING IN IT ( .50 CENTS ) AND WORKS GOOD AS NEW( NO LEAKS ) TOOK ME AWHILE TO FIND IT BECAUSE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS ALWAYS FULL WITH DEISEL... THIS MIGHT BE YOUR PROBLEM? AS THE 7.3 DOES NOT HAVE MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT( BEST MOTOR MADE IF YOU ASK ME) THEY ARE USUALY ALLWAYS SAME PROBLEMS.IV GOT 320,000 MILES ON MINE....AND STILL TICKING......
Ford 6.0 Diesel engines have two filters one on top of the motor near the old filter and one on the frame rail drivers side. Get to a warm building or try a additive to help ungel the fuel. your local auto parts place can help with additives now and in the future.
do not understand you what you mean. assuming your car was ok before you changed f/filter you need to bleed the fuel system of air. esiest to do would be to loosen fuel line at the injectors and have assistant crank the engine while you observe for clear fuel leak without any air bubbles from fuel line.tighten fuel lines and start engine. might have to repeat a few times. good luck.
