I would start with the 'PCM', or Power Control Module. You will have to take it to a garage with diagnostic capabilities to have this checked. The PCM controls how and when your car shifts, what RPM's it shifts at, etc......

Why is it so hard to get my Taurus out of park

Be uber careful with that transmission. Those are delicate pieces on a Taurus. The park pawl is what's sticking. You may have a low pressure issue from the pump or you might be parking on a grade and not using the park brake. Use the park brake and save your park pawl. They can brake off and then you have no park...

92 ford taurus torque converter locked

Your Transmission is in need of a rebuild which is more expensive than the car is worth. Ford built weak transmissions during that era and unless you add a large Transmission Cooler and avoid using OD while climbing hills or heavily loaded you will have these problems.

I have a 97 taurus, the transmission is out. i found a 99 transmission, butthis car has an overdrive button on the shifter. will these interchange

I wouldn't worry about the button, for some reason they let you shift the OD back then, now ,they shift for you. If that newer tranny fits, I hope you checked, It should be OK, don't worry about the old button. But,,,, I would look close at the electrical plugs on the newer tranny, make sure they look like the old ones, the ones in the rear of the tranny are for the speedo, the ones on the side should be for the shift solenoids. They are the ones you want to fit.

Trans not shifting to 2nd and 3rd gears. 99 Ford Taurus

I am having the same problem right now....seems there is a transmission control module which might be the cause. Mine is off and on, sometimes car shifts great, other times it stays in second and will shift to third.

Maybe a transmission problem?

You transmission is stuck in 4th gear. If you dreive in D this will allways happen. If your drive in the D with a circle around it thats over dirve and has the 5th gear u need. If its still not shifting in OD then your OD is bad

Hope this helps Good luck

1996 down shifts going down the road from od to d

Sounds like you have some trubble with your electronics. Probably need to hock it up to diagnose it. I would guess that the electronics in your car sends the wrong information to your gearbox, and therefor "lureing" it to downshift. It culd have something to do with the kickdown aswell, but since the gauges act the way they do, It seems more likely to be caused by the electronics.

My taurus has the jerks, and sputters?

The 1st thing you need to do is go to an Auto zone or Kragen auto and have them run a trouble code test, the OD light is blinking to let you know there is a transmission related fault, but it sounds like the may be other issues like the MAF sensor and passably a low fuel pressure concern.
