Either coolant temperature sensor isn't keeping the fan on long enough ( has a resistance problem) relay is opening the circuit too soon because its worn, water pump is defective( remove it belt and check for looseness at the pulley),coolant and thermostat need replacement.

My 2000 chevy cavalier temperature gauge starts to starts to rise an if I give it more gas for a little while it goes down .I have put new water pump an thermostat did not fix the problem .

Try flushing the radiator. It may need cleaning. Also even if fan is working it may not be pulling enough air to cool radiator.
your radiator cap may need replacing if system isn't holding pressure.

Why does 2000 s40 volvo turbo runs hot and the fan stays on after shut off

fans are designed to run on after you shut engine down as engine temperature rise after switching off . running hot could be caused by the top hose having gone soft when you rev the engine the water pump sucks the hose flat stopping the coolant flow or the radiator is blocked and need flushing out

Wait till the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap, start engine and look for coolant gushing out of radiator or a lot of bubbles, its possible you have a blown head gasket.

Seat 373.8

when the car is cool check the radiator hoses and radiator if the coolant is full then start the car with the radiator cap open. check if there are bubbles coming out of radiator if not then your car is ok. Stop the engine put thr radiator cap back. if you see bubbles your head gasket is given up due to overheat and you must take the car to the workshop for head gasket change.
incase of no bubbles check the front grill which you will notice a radiator is for the ac unit. inspect if it is blocked by insects or any thing. or simply use a pressure hose on it to clean it up. start the engine check the temperature with the bonnet open. WARNING !!!
radiator fans are automatic and will start soon as the temperature rises beyond normal. wait and allow the fun to be on with temperature monitering not to allow it to shoot up. if your does not start then you should seek help of car mechanic/electrician who should check the temperature thermostat fixed under the radiator having wires connected through relay connects fan. he should check thermostat, fan and relay to ensure and remove the fault.
if all are ok then start you car airconditioner and check the temperature which will go up but should remain somewhere in the middle approx depending upon the climatic condition of the place you live in.

Engine coolant indicator

make sure that your fans are working first. to do this. start veh and let idle until it warms up. but if it starts to get hot and fans do not turn on, check fuses. if they work then look for leaks.

1994 2.2L toyota camry radiator fans do not work

Hi.....

The Normal Temperature Range to the Fan Start is: A/C ON 181 F.
A/C OFF 199 F. When the Engine Reach this Temperature the Fan should start.

OK. Do this simple test.
1---- Start the engine, Desconnect the ECT Switch located on the Radiator,
See if the Fan come ON. If yes, if not go to step #2
Connect the ECT SWITCH and leave the car Running and with a Temperature gage.
See the temperature, if the Temperature go more than 199 F.
Turn the Engine OFF.
Disconnect the ECT sensor and check for Ground at the WHITE/BLACK wire.
If ground exist, Replace the ECT switch.
But if not. Check the wire for any damaged, and the ground at the Front Left Fender.
Repair as need.

2---- check the Fuse link RDI FAN . 30 amp.
Check the Fuse link CDS FAN 30 amp.
Replace if need.
And Return to step # 1.
Check the Radiator fan Relay, Rad fan relay 2 and 3. Replace if need.

Ok. I hope this help on your question.
I can give to you the WIRING DIAGRAM of the Fans, But I need a E-MAIL adress to do that.

Thank you for use fixya....

91 buick runs for awhile, engine light comes on, car shakes then quits. fan wont come on to cool it, how do i repair it?

Perhaps if you could provide a little more information or observations, it might be easier to isolate the problem. For example, it appears you may have a problem with the engine overheating and then your engine dies when the extreme temperature is reached. When you start the engine, watch the temperature gage on the instrument panel. Does the temperature rise slowly (lets say over a period of 10 minutes or more) or does it rise quickly to the point of overheating (less than 5 minutes)? If the temperature rises slowly, it is probably just that the thermostat needs to be replaced. The thermostat is usually located in a housing where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. If however, the temperature rises rapidly, that indicates a more serious problem. Your engine may have a blown head gasket which is venting hot exhaust gases into the cooling system causing the temperature to rise rapidly. I recently had this exact problem with my Chevrolet Venture which, like your Buick, is a GM product.
As far as the fan motor not coming on, the problem might be the fan motor itself. One way to test it is to connect the fan's electrical leads to a 12 volt power source like your car's battery. If the fan works, then the problem could be with the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor (ECT) which screws into the intake manifold. The ECT senses the engine's temperature and tells the fan when it needs to come on to start cooling. I hope some of this helps.
