It's in protection mode.
There's a fault somewhere which will harm the engine and so the engine defaults to a setting which will enable you to drive to the nearest Renault dealer or any other repair garage with a comprehensive diagnostic computer. Note that many independent garages have cut-price, cut-featured and frequently out of date diagnostic computers and vehicle data discs. It's one of a very few occasions that I'd actually advocate going to a main dealer.
One further point to my answer: Protection mode doesn't necessarily prevent the engine from damage, but it does reduce the possibility of serious damage. It's only intended to be used to get the car from where you are to the nearest suitable garage and is not intended to keep you driving all week until you can book the car in. Doing so will usually make any damage worse and can make fault diagnosis far more difficult.
