2007 Saturn Ion Sedan Power Steering failure

Does anyone know if there are any associated ''codings'', ''scanning'', or ''reprogramming'' of control modules associated with swapping the electronic power steering motor or PSCM on these affected IONs? In other words, if one were to buy the motor and/or PSCM would it be just a simple part swap new for old, or are there codes and scans that need to be done to make the parts 'compatible'?

If you replace or swap just the power steering motor there is nothing else you need to do,,but if you replace a control module you might need to program it,,,some new module come empty and u need to program it,,,and other ones that are used and u swap it need to be relearn to the car or you might get a check engine light on,,,,for it not being learned by the other modules,,they talk to each other

have vehicle scanned for trouble code --you have an electric assist motor mounted to steering column behind dash that is your power steering pump sort to say this is a recall notice you can call and check if your vehicle was done or is a listed vehicle https://auto-recalls.justia.com/saturn/ion/2004/14v153000/index.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14By80EyQT0

2006 ION. Why doesn't it crank or start?

It has electric power steering and there is a fault with it. The ECM recognises this and won't left you drive it.

There was a recall on it.

Only 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx, and Pontiac G6 models built between April and June 2006 are included in this recall. As with the initial recall-which included the Saturn Ion, Saturn Aura, Chevy HHR, and Chevy Cobalt-the electric power steering (EPS) in these vehicles can fail at any time while driving.Feb 17, 2015

Power stering failure saturn ion 2006

Hey Alex , what would you like to know ? Your vehicle has Electronic power steering , controlled by a control module .
The electric power steering (EPS) system reduces the amount of effort needed to steer the vehicle. The system uses the body control module (BCM), power steering control module (PSCM), torque sensor, discrete battery voltage supply circuit, EPS motor, serial data bus, and the instrument panel cluster (IPC) message center to perform the system functions. The PSCM, torque sensor, not the EPS motor are serviced separately from each other or from the steering column. Any EPS components diagnosed to be malfunctioning requires replacement of the steering column assembly, also known as the EPS assembly.
They had a recall on these systems ! Suggest you take it to a GM dealer , Chevy , Cadillac , Buick , etc.....

I have a 2003 Saturn ion-3. Last year the power steering went out and the shop had me replace the steering rack for $1100. Recently it has gone out again, what else might be the problem?

My power steering went out on a 2007 ion. I took it to a GM dealership with Goodwrench service repair. There was a recall & they fixed it FREE. I haven't had a problem since. That was oct 2011.

2007 SATURN ION POWER STEERING MESSAGE. MESSAGE FALSHES AND STEERING IS TOUGH TO TURN. i TURN CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON AND IT'S FINE UNTIL MESSAGE COMES ON AGAIN. IT MAKES NO NOISE.

  • You have an electronic power steering system.

  • Your power steering module, steering assist motor and the steering sensor could all be problems. You will have to have a scan performed to see what the exact problem is. There is no other way.

  • The power steering aides you in turning the wheel. When the light comes on there is a malfunction and this is why it is hard to turn the wheel, because the steering assistance of the power steering is gone at that time. Turning the car off just temporarily resets the PCM.

Intermintent cruise contol on 2007 ion coupe 2.4 not red line. I've had it to the dealer several times, and it seems to work for them thats Bull### what else can I do to fix this? Thanks

My 2007 Ion 2.2L sedan has the same issue. Every now and then when I am driving, the Cruise Control fails to engage. If I turn the car off, re-crank it, it works fine. Dealer cannot find the issue and it only happens about once a month. No bad computer codes or anything, just annoying.
