Transmission question. Now i know that it is damaging to an automatic transmission to put it in another gear while the car is moving, but I was wondering, in my 2009 CRV there is about a second delay when it goes into gear. Is it harmful to the transmission to take my foot off of the break before it completely goes into gear. One time I accidentally taped the accelerator before it completely went into gear. It only reved to about 900 rmp then lurched forward a bit. It was just an accident and only happened once, but could this have hurt something?

No not at all, automatic transmissions are very robust units and can withstand some very harsh treatment.

My 2004 Toyota corolla the gear shifting is not smooth

I assume Automatic Transmission?
Today's Cars are very particular about correct CLEAN fluids
AND filters!

"ATF" in most cases means Automatic Transmission FORD
Someone has done a transmission service with FORD transmission fluid.

The damage is done, there is nothing I can do for you.

However, you can try flushing the system of ATF with Dextron III
Automatic Transmission fluid at a Oil service company.
This will flush all the Damaged parts through your already damaged Transmission into the filter, doing further damage to seals and... along the way. Plus change the Transmission filter.

Bottom line;
Regardless of correct Fluid, The Transmission fluid IS dirty,
The Transmission needs clean Fluid and filter changed to run correctly, In any case; This may save what ever is remaining of your Transmission's life or not and your Car won't move at all.
OR you could do nothing and the Car May run another 30,000 miles or another 300 miles.

IF after doing a Transmission service the car won't move,
you can try putting the FORD Transmission Fluid in, which is an old trick to TEMPORARILY fix old worn out Chevy Transmissions.

Your Choice :)

I suggest playing the Slots at a local Casino first, to see how your luck is going before making a decision.
GOOD LUCK!

Automatics transmission 2003 mecurymountineer don't shiftgears

Most current automatic transmissions will be put into a "limp" mode if the electronics detect a fault in the transmission. That is, the transmission will go into one gear (usually second or third depending on how many speed ranges the transmission has) and allow you to drive it slowly to a service department or transmission shop. The intent is to prevent further damage by continuing to drive with the problem. It's possible the problem is relatively minor and inexpensive to repair, but continuing to drive it will almost certainly cause more damage (and more expense) to repair.

Automatic transmission not shifting gears

Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid and if necessary the transmission fluid. Check the condition of the gears within the transmission (cracked, damaged) and change the gear cluster if necessary.

I believe you have a slipping gears and looks like the gear box need overhauling. Take it to an Automatic Transmission Specialist to Diagnose.Do not leave it and use it any further, surely you will cause serious damage and cost.

not likely that you did any damage doing this just once. It would be best to keep your foot on the brake pedal until the car is all the way in gear.

Your best bet is to keep your foot on the brake until it goes into gear. It does take a "second" for everything to work in the transmission, but if it is more, with it being a 2006, the factory warranty should still be good. I would have a Hyundai Dealer check the transmission, it may need a transmission service. I don't think you would hurt anything.

Not yet, but you could end up breaking hard parts like the transmission output shaft or axle. The way the transmission is programed (Transmission Control Module) is when the transmission is on park, the transmission line pressure is drop so when you put it to gear, there will not be a big shock to the transmission and drive line. If you give it gas before it's in gear, the transmission line pressure rises which will give the transmission a large shock when it goes in to gear and can cause a major internal part to break like the out put shaft. The transmissions were program to go in to gear with a delay and the transmission line will rise once it's in gear, this way the transmission will last longer and less probability to any parts breaking unless abused that way you have described on how you don't wait for it to go in to gear before you take your foot of the gas and give it gas right away. And yes they can see that thought the DTC history on how the car is driven voiding any warranty.
Good luck and thank you for using Fixya
