My vechicle is having a hard time coming out of first gear

could be worn universal joint bearing if noise coming from rear end of vechicle.

try have vechicle jump start.if vechicle starts could have faulty alternator in which not charging the battery.

Likely an issue with the transmission. Check the transmission oil level with the engine running. If too high or low, then have a garage check your system. The 6 is sometimes prone to obvious transmission wear around 150,000 plus km.

need transmission shop or any auto parts stores to answer that question because grand cherokee has many transfercase. i had the same problem with my toyota estate i had to remove the gearbox and remove the bottom plate then tap the gears with a hammer not to hard untill the gear moved then put it back together and worked fine never did it again and wasnt to hard to move the gear.

SOUND LIKE TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEMS. NOT LOCKING UP FOR OVER DRIVE.HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN SEE WHAT CAUSING VECHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON.

LOOK FOR LOOSE SHIFT LEVER BOLTS ON TRANSAXLE OR BENT DAMAGED 2WD 4WD SHIFT ROD. IF ALL IS GOOD HAVE VECHICLE SCANNED FOR TRANSFER BOX SHIFT MOTOR FAULT CODE SINCE VECHICLE ELECTRICAL AND PCM CONTROL.

SCAN VECHICLE COULD BE THE VECHICLE SPEED SENSOR.

LOOK FOR A PLUG ON THE SIDE OF TRANSAXLE CASE.LUBRICANT SHOULD BE CHECKED WITH COLD ENGINE AND LEVEL VECHICLE.RAISE VECHICLE SUPPORT WITH JACK STANDS.MAKE SURE VECHICLE IS LEVEL.WHEN YOU FIND AND REMOVE PLUG.IF OIL POUR OUT HOLE YOU HAVE ENOUGH IN GEAR BOX.IF NO OIL COMES OUT.INSERT YOUR FINGER TO FEEL THE LUBRICANT IT SHOULD BE 3/16 INCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF PLUG HOLE..IF NOT ADD OIL USING A FUNNEL WITH A RUBBER HOSE OR SYRINGE.BECAREFUL WORKING UNDER VECHICLE.MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON HARD SOLID GROUND CAR IS LEVEL.MAKE SURE TO USE JACK STANDS.MAKE SURE CAR IS SAFE AND SECURE NOT MOVING IF YOU SHAKE IT.

there is no way you can check the transmission you must take it to the dealer.that is what i was told
