Hmm if it is a mouse house you can just throw it in the garbage.
radiator fans are not supposed to have any hoses hanging from them. radiators sometimes have a overflow hose hanging from them and thats normal. Sometimes, most of the time, the over flow hose goes to an overflow container. some people throw those away and let the hose hang. Probably not a good idea.

How to change lifter shims on a 1990 geo storm

old post. (no FSM book, or can log in to alldata.com>?
its the 1.6L twin cam, only IT has shims.

answered; with no photos, get the book, or login.
steps: (quote)
The notch on the crankshaft pulley should align with the 0 degrees mark on the timing gear case. Make sure the rocker arms on the No. 1 cylinder are loose and the rockers on the No. 4 cylinder are tight. If not, turn the crankshaft one complete revolution and align the marks again.

Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the selective shim on the intake and exhaust valves on the No. 1 cylinder, then the intake valves on the No. 2 cylinder and the exhaust valves on the No. 3 cylinder. Note readings.

Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the selective shim on the intake and exhaust valves on the No. 4 cylinder, then the intake valves on the No. 3 cylinder and the exhaust valves on the No. 2 cylinder. Note readings.

The valve clearance obtained on the exhaust valves should be between 0.008-0.012 in. (0.20-0.30mm). If not, replace the selective shim by turning the camshaft lobe downward and installing tool J-38413-2 or J-38413-3 (valve lash spring spacer) between the camshaft journal and the cam lobe next to the selective shim. Turn cam lobe upward and remove the selective shim. Install new shim using the selective shim chart.

The rear camshaft bearing caps must be removed to remove the selective shim.

The valve clearance obtained on the intake valves should be between 0.004-0.008 in. (0.10-0.20mm). If not, replace the selective shim by turning the camshaft lobe downward and installing tool J-38413-2 or J-38413-3 between the camshaft journal and the cam lobe next to the selective shim. Turn cam lobe upward and remove the selective shim. Install new shim using the selective shim chart.

When the adjustment is completed, install the cylinder head covers and connect the battery negative cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.
end quote.

the real question is.
where do i get shims from a dead car company if in USA? now that be the big question.

Timing marks on 1.6 dual over head cam

the geo storm, 1.6 DOHC
the FSM cover it, so does alldata.com
hint 2, its an Isuzu engine.
its really (makes information easier to find )
Isuzu:
4XE1-UW a DOHC 16-valve engine with 130 hp (97 kW)
he DOHC engine was used in the 1990-1991 Isuzu Impulse XS, in the 1990-1991 Isuzu Stylus XS, in the 1990-1991 Geo Storm GSi, and the M100 Lotus Elan.
all that off the wiki,,
all cars rare here.....

1st google hit
http://www.robietherobot.com/storm/torquespecs.htm

This engine is interference type
so when timed, with a new belt
roll engine by hand, with spark plugs out.? do pistons hit valves.
yes, stop, the cam is timed wrong.
no, do a compression test on #1, if pass, do all 4. 150psi min.w.o.t.
wide open throttle
a better test, is a leak down test. x4. by hand.
these acts of kindness to the engine, saves most engines.

if the leak down fails, the timing is wrong, or the valves are already
bent..
dont use a fleabay china belt, bet a GATES belt. (they last)
setting the tension is very important to a full life .

91 Geo Storm Gsi running just fine, one day I lost power driving 65, check engine light came on and was flickering, mph arm going up and down but didn't die then. Then it was ok.That happened 2 times...

Most engines don't fair well under extreme heat. It's apparent you might have some electrical issue's. Your rpm's or mph arm going up and down could be faulty speed sensor would cause arm problem. I think you may have more than one problem, the car shutting off is due to engine over-heating. Check cooling system-thermostat, water pump, radiator, engine fans and coolant temp sensor and fan relay's. It could be as simple as blown radiator hose.

I have a 1993 geo storm. The heat goes on and off when it wants to. It works when u start the car in the morning then it may not work the rest of the day.

if the fan is not blowing its probably bad connection at the motor remove fan cover check connection. No heat check coolant level.maybe thermostats bad, faulty radiator or water pump

Where is the water pump on 1990 Geo Storm GSI? Does it have one? My car is overheating. It has a brand new radiator in it but it doesn't seem to be moving any fluid, there is no flow.

it is on the front of the engine and yeas it has one, it is located under the camshaft drive belt cover and drive by the camshaft belt, both will need to be replaced. see picture below

91 geo storm overheats

Leaks water under the dash or antifreeze. Sounds like it needs a heater core. If you replaced the thermostat it might still have air trapped in it.
