My check engine light came on and I took it to Advanced Auto Parts, he told me the code was P0301 and read a misfire on spark plug 1. He said it could be the coil. What is your opinion, I just had the spark plugs replaced. Also my front drivers side has always made a rubbing metal on metal noise and it is starting to scare me now.

Check the spark plugs, on cyl#1 if the problem started after they were replaced you could have a defective plug. As for the metal to metal noise have your brakes inspected. They could be worn out.

P0301 is a misfire in cylinder 1. This can be a lot of different things, but it seems you've already been throwing parts at it. I would recommend a compression test to test for a leaking gasket or a bad piston ring or valve.

Honda civic 1998 EX check engine light on codes p300 p0301 p302 p303 p304

I don't think it is your catalytic converter because your light usually flashes and a bad cat I never heard of them causing a misfire. I ran your other code it is for a faulty EGR system. Exhaust gas recirculation excessive. You are getting too much exhaust gas back in the system. This will cause your misfire. Go-to a trusted mechanic and have them check out your EGR system.

I failed the emission test and I also went to get an check engine light test from Auto Zone. I received the codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and the results that I received from Auto Zone was valve...

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plugs or wires
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector(s)
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
Faulty camshaft position sensor
Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Hope helps.

I changed my spark plugs and afterwards the chech engine light came on. the jeep runs great. what can make that happen?

IT could be something such as a loose plug wire. The best advise I can give you is to take your jeep to your local auto parts store and have them pull the codes out of your on board computer. This will give you an area that you can concentrate on to make the necessary repairs to get your check engine light to go out.

Code scan: P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected

Code P0301 is a generic OBD Code for Misfire. It also indicates you have a misfire in the #1 Cylinder. I would start by checking the plug wire to make sure its clean and on all the way (at the coil as well). Then if that doesnt help I would pull the plug out and check the condition of the spark plug. hopefully this will give you some direction. Thanks for Using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC
