Check for clearance between the rotor and the caliper, and caliper to the rim.Make sure one ,or more of the brake pads where not accidently put on backwards, with the metal on the rotor,it happens sometimes.

When driving a 1990 300E, the front wheels shake when applying the brakes, Brake pads have at least 70% remaining. Alignment was good when last checked.

Most likely problem is brake rotors warped. If you replaced pads without machining rotors, or if rotors are getting worn and close to minimum thickness, warping is more likely. If you replace the rotors, replace the pads at the same time. The pads that are on the car now are wearing unevenly due to the warped rotors and can cause new problems for the new ones.

My 2002 Toyota Avalon is shaking when I apply the brakes. I have replaced the front and rear brake pads and the front rotors with Raybestos ones. It still shakes. Could the rear rotors be warped?

That's what I would imagine. It is usually the front rotors that warp due to the fact that they work a little harder than the rears. However, rear rotors can warp. If you feel the shake more in the body of the car, so in the seat and you feel like the whole car is moving and the steering wheel stays mostly calm then I would imagine the rear rotors are warped. However if the shaking is felt mostly in the brake pedal and the steering wheel shakes too then it is probably your front rotors. Shops can usually resurface rotors and it may be cheaper than buying new, so that could be an option for you.

2008 mailbu After braking hard (coming off of freeway on to the service road) and then using the brakes a block later the rotors seem to have warped. After a few blocks the problem goes away. The rotors...

i think you have overheated the pads so the brakes just seemed to fade with a hard brake pedal but no stopping power ,they might be ok with some use as this will clean up the burnt surface of the pads ,if the disks show no blue colour then your ok and maybe a different grade of brake pads will resolve this problem

My 1998 ford escort brake peddle started pulsing and then a noise. Checked fluid, not down any fluid, and no leeks, just feels like I can not stop well., No ABS lite til yesterday, then it came on after...

Normally a "pulsing" brake pedal means that that you have a warped brake rotor or the brake caliper is lose. I would start by taking the front wheel off and inspecting the brake pads and the rotor. If the brake pads are worn down bad replace them. Pay special attention to the brake rotors also as if the are grooved very bad, they should also be replaced.

Vibration on steering wheel when braking

Usually it is a warped brake rotor. Take a look at the car's maintenance history (was anything done that might be related to this new issue). Are there more then one person using the car. (any lead-foots in the family?), how many miles are on the car (it may be due for its first brake job).

Shake in front end

yes that is a very common feeling in warped rotors, if you feel the brake pedal the pulsing then you defintly have warped rotors, replace rotors and brake pads, never reuse pads when they have been in contact with a warped rotor, they will cause the new rotors to warp also

Brake pad and rotor problems creating an on-going noise and vibration. Pads in front and back have been replaced;also rotors have been ground.

you need to replace the rotors. On new vehicles the manufacturer designed the rotors along with other parts to be replaced at certain mileage or ware. When they ground the rotors they became thinner. So now when the brakes warm up the rotors are easier to warp, which is the problem your having now.

I just had my mechanic to tell me that my roto's on the front of

resurfacing rotors is not very expensive should be $40 to $80 . I believe you have brake pulsation . if so your mechanic is right and rotors are the round disk that pads grab on.

Rotor's warped

Rotors are a part of the disc brake braking system, and they warp due to a number of things. And the amount they warp ranges from very little, to quite a bit, so much so that you can feel the warpage in the brake pedal when you stop.

They can cost from $20.00 to $150.00 per rotor, depending on the vehicle. They can be turned at the auto repair shop for about $10.00 per rotor. There is 1 rotor per wheel. Turning them gives you a new rotor for all intents and purposes, but once turned, depending on how much was turned off, they cannot be turned again. So a badly warped rotor might can be turned, or might be too warped to be turned. A slightly warped rotor might can be turned again.
