Capacity is aprrox 1.75 lbs with proper gauge (28 ozs). Leak points are many, low side port ,high side port, high and low cut off switches,evap inlet,compressor manifold,condensor inlet and outlet...to name a few.
Have a code test done (most larger parts houses will read codes for free) Get yourself either a haynes or chilton manual and look up any codes and find what they are related to. Manuals will also list individual tests to components that you can do using a decent multi-meter. Most common cause of a problem such as yours is either a failing crank position sensor or fuel pump but it can be caused by many other items including a loose connection at the ignition switch, coil etc. (why testing is important) Wish there was something simple like a "stalling out switch" you could replace, but there isn't!
