'99 Maxima SE manual with 147k: I had my car parked (on grass) for 2 years while I drove a company vehicle. I just got it back on the road and am getting codes for rear upstream O2 sensor and knock...

O2 sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold ,

Knock Sensor Strategies: A failure with the knock sensor can cause spark knock and engine damaging detonation because the PCM will not know to ****** ignition timing if knock is occurring.

I suggest to replace spark plugs before you return back.

Will a bad knock sensor cause a misfire. car is missing change the plugs no help codes are misfire and knock senser sometimes a #2 o2 sensor. 1999 maxima thanks for your help.

A Bad Knock Sensor will not cause a misfire, unless the advance is off due to a faulty Knock Sensor. The O2 Sensor will cause a random misfire.

Good luck on this repair.

2002 Nissan Maxima SE. It pings under a light load and tends to be both at lower speeds and now even on the freeway when there is a light load. When accelerating it's not a problem. I am not getting any...

Your knock sensors might have gone bad, allowing the engine to ping. The knock sensors would usually retart the timing, to stop that pinging. They don't illuminate the check engine light when they go bad, but the code will be stored in the ecm if they're bad. Have your engine codes read to see if that's the problem.

I failed the emisson's test. I have a 97 Nissan

P0136 indicates a bad O2 sensor. This reports poor emission performance back to the car's PCM (computer)
P0325 indicates a bad "Knock" sensor which would adversely effect drivability as far as performance is concerned. Only way to fix these 2 problems is replacement of the 2 components.

Location of knock senor on 97 maxima se

Your knock sensor is located Under the hood, center, front engine area, below intake manifold, mounted on block.

A defective knock sensor may cause engine detonation or reduced spark advance and fuel economy. When a knock sensor is removed and replaced, the sensor must be tightened to its specified torque. If the knock sensor is installed tighter than it should be, it may become too sensitive and provide an excessively high voltage signal, resulting in more spark ****** than required. When the knock sensor is installed looser than it should be, the knock sensor signal will be lower than normal, resulting in engine detonation.

To replace the knock sensor:
  • Disconnect the knock sensor wiring connector.
  • Then, unscrew the sensor.
  • Remove the knock sensor.
  • Reverse the procedures to install the part.
