You have bad head gaskets! one of them is leaking at the coolant port into the oil port. If you are mechanically inclined you can fix it yourself with alittle bit of know how, or you can have someone elts do it for you. Its also in the best intrest of the vehicle to not drive it anymore until the repairs are made- Thank you for using fixya.com

You most likely have a blown head gasket. You will only know more by either disassembling the engine or having a professional shop look at it. If you're determined to look further yourself - without starting the car - crank it over [ remove the spark plug wires - making them plainly with tape - -- ] after removing the sparkplug wires from the sparkplugs - crank the engine over for 30 seconds or so and then pull each plug - look for moisture on the plug end. If there is moisture then you have internal engine problems.
Remove the heads and have a look to see if they're cracked - replace head gaskets. You should be ok if you have the heads checked and do a visual inspection of the block.
Best of it.

If you have a 3.1 it is more than likely that the intake gaskets are bad.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I have a 1994 Pontiac GrandAm w/175,000 miles. It has sat for 5 years because it was orverheating and quit running al together. where do I start if I want to get it running?

Start by removing the sparks and wire set. Mark each wire with a piece of tape as you take them off. Take a compression reading on all cylinders. They should be over 120 psi and within 20 psi of each other. Change the oil and filter, checking the oil for water and metal particles. If the gasoline has been sitting that long I would fill it with fresh fuel. Change the air filter, plugs, wires, etc. Check the cooling system for leaks, drain and refill with new antifreeze. Assemble everything and have a small amount of fuel to prime the engine if needed. Make sure the battery is fresh and fully charged. Fire her up, let it get warm while checking for leaks, smoke, overheating. Bring to a smooth idle.

On my 1999 Grand am se v6 i was running it and it over heated and started smoking , I checked the oil and it is over by like 4 quarts. It looks like its straight oil. what should i try first changing the...

If the oil overfilled itself, then likely the oil is floating on 4(?) quarts of antifreeze! The immediate repair may only be head gaskets, but the oil system has probably pumped the antifreeze through the bearings which didn't do them any favors. If the engine became hot enough to smoke, the heads probably have warped as well. You may be ahead by trying to obtain a used engine from a local wrecking yard. Not cheap in any case!

Oil and antifreeze mixture

Don't try to start the car anymore!  You have blown your head gasket.  Take the car to a mechanic and have them check the engine out to make sure you haven't done any further damage to the piston.  If not, have them replace the head gasket and you should be good.  Hopefully it's just the head gasket and you don't need to rebuild the motor.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.

Is there a special way to add coolant to the Grand PRix

I assume it's a V6, I know from working on Fords and when we would refill the radiator on a V6, we would take the upper hose loose from the radiator and back fill it that way. Hope this helps
