sounds like it needs an ignition switch then. If it dies as soon as you let the key out of the start position, then this is the case. They wear out quite often.
This sounds like a ignition problem, check the ignition switch. see if it looses power when the key is released, also if it just cranks then it may just die when the key is let go for another reason than the switch, but i would start with the switch first.
It sounds like there 2 problems with the car The security light will not cause the car to die It will keep the car from starting. and the most likely problem is the Ignition lock cylinder wires are broken. At the bottom of the steering column there will be an orange wire with 2 white wires coming out of it. dis connect the connector and connect an digitial ohm meter across the 2 wires and test for resistance. The resistance should match the resistance of the resistor that is on the key (black pellet). If the wires ohm open with the key in the ignition or go to open when turning the key then the ignition lock cylinder will need to be replaced
Does the engine die as soon as you release the key, or does it run for a couple of seconds after you release the key and then die? If it dies as soon as you release the key, try holding the key for a few seconds and see if it will stay running as long as you are holding the key (the starter will make a grinding sound while holding the key but won't hurt anything). If it stays running while you hold the key then dies when you release it, that indicates that the ignition switch is bad.
