Car dies some times when heater is turned om - 1998 Ford Taurus

I would have the alternator checked as the heater takes a lot of battery power it sounds like the alternator is struggling to run the car and the heater at the same time

Safty feture it is to help remove exhaust fumes that may come into the cab.

timing belt jumped a tooth?,causing burning smell from engine overheating?????????. Out of ignition timing causes erratic/missing/jerking and possibly die. All this " may be " a coincidence from heater core repair.

You will be able to help diagnose the problem by pulling fuses. Take a volt meter and put it to oms. Disconnect the positive battery cable. Put one end on the positive battery termanal and the other on the cable. Note the oms. Now, pull one fuze at a time until the oms drop considerably lower than before you pulled the fuzes. Thats the system that is drawing the power. Once you know the system you can track it down further. It could also be your altrenator. Disconnect it too and measure the oms before and after. take your time and do one system at a time noting the oms before and the oms after. My quickest guess it it is either your altrenator or your radio. Please note, you will have some "draw" no matter what because your clock radio or door lights will draw power. If you want to see this, test the oms with the doors closed and then test with the door open. The oms number will be higher with the door open.

If you don't have a volt meter, you can always test one fuze at a time over night. That would take considerably longer tho.

clean the cables, if still not working, every time you finished using the car disconnected the negative cable from the battery. and then connected it back when about to use it again.

bad wiring harnes or someone i know had the same problem, your computer should be on the fire wall, water likes to run under the hood and down the fire wall, check the plug on the computer for wetness or ice, what ever the case my be.

Your heater fan bearing is shot,,time to replace Fan now before you really need it.
