This is very common on the 500, The instrument cluster will need to be replaced. The new cluster will need to be programmed at a dealer or other facility that has the proper programming equipment.

If this is a Windstar it is the same as a Nissan Quest. The dash boards go bad all the time. Usually a small time after the speedo and Tach stop working, the vehicle will no longer run because when the dash goes bad it blocks communication to the other computers.
If this is an Aerostar I suggest checking grounds behind the dash for rust / corrosion as well as the connectors to it.
there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.
Your case could be the voltage regulator, when they go bad, the dash board goes into a light show, you will have to get the alternator out and checked, and probably replaced. But, you are not alone, if it isn't the regulator, it is the car, they have had a ton of complaints about the dash board lighting up with warnings and trouble codes and nothing is wrong with the car, It takes a rocket scientist to figure t out, because the dealer will take the car, fix it for 10 mins, then they come back on, and you get tired of taking it to the dealer. Get the code read while you are at it and see what it says. Hope this helps.
