This fuel filter is a mesh or screen that prevents large foreign particles for entering the fuel pump. Access to the fuel filter is obtained by removing the fuel tank and then the fuel pump from the fuel tank.

The second fuel filter is within the fuel line itself. After the fuel pumps extracts fuel from the gasoline tank and into the fuel line, fuel flows through the line and through another filter on the driver's side of the Express Chevy 3500 under the front wheel suspension. i have a 1998 3500, with the 5.7v-8, and fought electrical problems for eight months now. i believe it is a problem within the chevy van, because a lot of people complain about blown fuses. my fuse was the ecm-b fuse as well, and after cleaning all the grounds and bat. connections, starter connections, and disabling the a/c circuit, on the advice of another poor van owner i replaced the ignition coil. six months so far, and no problems. this might help you as well. mine did not have any visable problems, but he was persistant, so i did it. good luck
IF YOU GOT CYLINDER MISFIRE.OR OPEN FUEL INJECTOR.THAT WILL CAUSE THE PCM TO ENRICHEN FUEL MIXTURE.TO ADJUST TO DEAD CYLINDER.WHICH ACT AS A LARGE VACUUM LEAK.THATS WHY YOUR EXHAUST TAIL PIPES HAS A RAW FUEL SMELL AND WHITE SMOKES.
it can be in one of 3 places on the pump in the filter or on the fuel injector rail if the filter has 3 lines on it then it is in the filter if it is on the fuel injector rail it is inside the intake but it is more than likely on the pump
