i think you might not have enough fuel supply to the motor.replace the fuel filter if it hasn`t been changed for a while.then check the fuel pressure and volume with a gage and a container.if this is throttle body injection it should have about 13lbs pressure and the volume should be about 500ml in 15 seconds of running.if it was too much fuel you would be having black smoke out the tailpipe and wet plugs.
I would seriously consider changing the fuel filter. I'm afraid I don't know the Montana well enough to tell you the exact location of the fuel filter, it should be in the fuel line which should run along the left side of the van. This does take a couple special tools as well they'll run you around $20-$30 and the filter should run about the same.
ive got the same problem in my 87 chevy r10 from what ive read its the fuel pump i tried changing the throttle body, and the fuel injectors and it doesnt seem to be the problem im getting gas to the line but i dont think its enough pressure ill be changing the fuel pump and ill let you know.
Are you sure it is getting spark to the plugs? Did you check fuel pressure? It still may be getting some fuel but not enough. Is it fuel injected or car berated?
If it is a 1980 Caddy it either has a carburetor or throttle-body fuel injection( V864, if it's fuel injected you might need a new fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator ) and you can remove the aircleaner lid and pour a little gas down the carb (hold the choke plate open with a screw driver placed between choke plate and carb air horn) or throttle-body. It might take a few tries before the fuel pump fills the float bowl up on the carb for it to keep running. If the cars has really old stale gas in the tank you might need to drain it and refill with fresh gas. Change the fuel filter and add a can of fuel injector-carb cleaner to the gas tank.
Did you replace fuel filter...? If the filters all clogged up it wont matter if you changed the fuel pump cause it will burn the new one out also... Plus you use Sunnoco gas dont you??? Let me know about that and tell me if you changed fuel filter if not do that real quick.
