My 1997 Buik LeSabre won't start. I tried jumping it, but that didn't work. When i turned the key when i was jumping it nothing at all happened, no lights went on or anything, the engine didn't even try to turn over. Do you think i need a new battery? Or is it something entirely different?

I have to ask - since you didn't include any other info - do any lights work? If not - you may have a dead battery. You can attempt to jump the car or put a charger on the battery. Once started, you should drive the car w/ minimal accessories on (if jumped to start) to allow the battery to charge. You should have the batter checked for possible replacement or service very soon. Advanced Autoparts will do electrical system testing for free:
jump terminals 4 and8 close all doors turn ignition on door locks should cycle press and hold lock and unlock buttons on transmiter after a 30 sec delay door locks will lock and unlock disconect jumper
Does it start if you jump it? Just cause lights come on does not mean you have a good battery. The lights will require less amperage to work than the amperage required to crank the engine. Having stated that, how old is your battery? is your battery able to meet the demand? Have your starting and charging system looked at and good luck
Sounds like your battery is just too dead, has enough juice to light up the system for a minute but cranking drains it and if it wont charge then deff fried, you could try removing the battery and starting the car with cables to confirm the starter still works. If a bettery is too dead then when you are jumping it, it takes to much of the power just trying to get through the battery.
Hello homeygreatda
A fairly common cause for this problem in older GM's, is a worn security pellet in the key or the lock cylinder. If one or both of the pellets is worn, they will not create the correct resistence value
to signal the powertrain control module(PCM) and allow the starter to engage. With that said, if you
have a spare key give it a try, and if it works have a new key made using the spare key to copy from. Hope this is helpful.
