02 sensor location 2002 v6 Ford escape

O2 sensors are located in the exhaust system, before and after the catalytic converter, (Cat).
Sensor 1, (Upstream sensor), is before the catalytic converter, often positioned in the exhaust manifold or in the down pipe attached to the manifold.
Sensor 2, (Downstream sensor), is positioned under the vehicle after the catalytic converter. They usually stick out at 90 degrees to the exhaust and can be a real pain in the tailbone to get out.

Could the wrong engine computer, bad injectors or a bad catalytic converter cause my engine to misfire and the exhaust to turn red hot right behind the catalytic converter???

Red hot is the best clue. I suspect a bad converter. Try disconnecting the converter and run to test. Look inside the converter to see if it is clogged with melted stuff or carbon. Bad gas in tank? How could it possibly run well if this is true? Clean tank and use fresh fuel.

Sputters at full throttle and wont idle

Run pressure test on your fuel injectors. Fuel pump might not be suppling enough fuel line pressure.

When you push the gas pedal half way the motor wants to smother out we changed the o2 sensor the maf sensor the throttle position sensor and it still does it what can i look for next

Hello: You have spent a lot of time and money already. I would recommend you use a back pressure gage and check for a restricted exhaust system (possibly a plugged catalytic converter) Anything above 1 psi indicates a restricted exhaust. It screws in where the 02 sensor goes in front of the catalytic converter.

It acts like it is loading up when you give it the gas, but not all the time. The check engine light is on and the test for it i was told that it had to do with the catalytic converter.

try unpluging then repluging in your TPS (throttle position sensor) its located on the end of your intake. it reads the position of your throttle and works with your ECM, and the O2 sensors to control your air/fuel mixture. if its running rich and not burning off all the gas it would also throw off your O2 sensor that is attached to the front of your catalytic converter. sometimes these sensors get gummed up and they send inacurate information to the ECM.

Check engine light on for sometime; Response to throttle sluggish

If your catalytic converter is "below efficiency" or otherwise clogged, you will lose power as you drive and the vehicle heats. The more you drive the vehicle, the worse the problem will become. The exhaust can't escape properly through the catalytic converter, therefore your engine won't run properly. Your issues are related, and if you replace your catalytic converter they should go away.

How to replace/remove both catalytic converters

Below are the steps needed to remove the catalytic converters. You may be able to first remove the band clamp from between the converter and the exhaust manifold, then loosen the rest of the system and to get enough clearance to slide the converter towards the front of the vehicle but you will need to first remove the clamp that holds the converter to the rest of the exhaust. Hope this helps
_______________________
Both Catalytic Convertors

First you need to raise the vehicle.

Next, you need to pry the insulators from the support brackets and support the muffler and tailpipe with jackstands.

Then, loosen the the catalytic converter down pipe-to-front resonator clamps and separate the front resonator from the converter down-pipes. Carefully lay the free laying exhaust on the ground.

Right Catalytic Converter

Then, remove the down-pipe-to-transaxle bracket nut, loosen the clamp and separate the extension pipe from the converter.

Next lower the vehicle and remove the air filter and intake ducts. Disconnect the wiring harness for the O2 sensor and the remove the sensor.

Finally loosen the band clamp at the exhaust manifold and remove the converter from the engine compartment. You may need to replace these clamps after removal because you need to pry it apart and they will leak when you reinstall.

Left Catalytic Converter

Now disconnect the wiring harness for the O2 sensor and the remove the sensor.

Next remove the down-pipe-to-transaxle bracket nut

Finally loosen the band clamp at the exhaust manifold and remove the converter from the engine compartment.
