My vtec on my 2000 honda civic si keeps going out it just happened recently. I was in fourth gear and the rpms were at about 6000 and then the check engine light came on. It came out with the code p1259, any one know anything i can do to fix.

which engine, options there are many.???

surge 101 (running gasoline?)
it caused by 2 things. (and lots of reasons)
1: engine running lean. all engines lean surge. fix that first.
hint use a scan tool see live data........?????
2: ISC system is faulting, the idle speed controller can fail for #1
or for itself. (it can stick) clean in.

there are 50 causes of misfire. (and flooding)

what we do is, conduct simple tests to find what is going on.
but first do that missed , 60,000 mile tune up, it might fix the problem
in FACT , tuneups are 100% designed to what, stop misfire.

my wild guess is it flooding.
are the spark tips (all) soaking in fuel , stalled?

thats one test, and is free, for any show with basic tools.

Tap on the starter with a hammer, but don't hit the wires to the battery, then try it, if that don't work check the cables from the battery to the starter to see if the bolts are tight. But first take the hot cable off the battery, so you don't short out the starter or the battery. And also clean and tighten the cables to the battery.

P1259 VTEC system malfunction

B18 is VTEC, is it a B18B1 or C1? there are a few honda forums online dedicated to the VTECs.

Drive the vehicle in "D". The D selection is the overdrive. You can consider the overdrive as a fourth gear. The D3 is simply third gear, and if driven in D3, the transmission will never shift into overdrive when needed.

You can determine where your car was made by examining the VIN

P1259 is a code for vtec malfunction usually cause by a bad vtec solenoid, vtec pressure sensor, low oil level, bad connection. Was oil change done? May want to check the oil level. P1166 is a code for a primary o2 sensor 1.

tps is a likely suspect...throttle position sensor

i don't think so but you could ask your local wreckers to confirm though
