do you mean the switch or the key tumbler. You did not have to remove the steering wheel to replace either one . Place the key in the run position ,with a small punch or screwdriver locate the hole in the bottom of the column shroud. push in and pull out the tumbler. The swicth is held on by two t30 torx screws.

Now to install igintion switch

Removal & Installation The ignition switch or warning switch can be replaced without removing the steering lock assembly. The ignition switch is on the back of the assembly and the warning switch on the side.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and insulate the terminal end.

CAUTION The air bag system must be disarmed before removing the steering wheel. Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment, property damage or personal injury.

  1. Remove the steering wheel and the steering column upper and lower covers.
  2. Remove the spiral cable assembly.

Key will not start f150 truck I can circumvent and turn it over but how do I put in new switch

Disconnect negative on battery. Pull steering wheel with steering wheel puller. Take off turn signal assembly.

Put key in old lock, turn to on, you will see small hole on top of steering housing, put in stiff wire to push back retainer holding old lock, pull old lock out, install new lock, reverse procedure.

Installation of horn contact and steering wheel on trans am. Car is a 1981

Pull the horn cap off, it should have plastic tabs that lock into a metal cylinder underneath, but will pop off pretty easily. That metal cylinder should be held on by 3 screws. Under those screws is a plastic washer and your contact ring. If you're replacing a steering wheel and need to pull the old one buy, rent or borrow a steering wheel puller. There's nothing worse than having to explain to your buddies how you broke your nose removing a steering wheel. They puller looks like a crows foot. It has three slots on one side and one on the back side. You can use three bolts to attach it to the steering wheel. I wrench will work to screw down the large bolt in the center and the steering wheel will come right off. Put a new steering wheel on, new contacts, and you should be set to go.

How to pull steering column for blinker switch replacement

You will need some tools like a steering wheel puller and a few other tools. Take the cover off the steering wheel and the centre nut from the steering wheel. Use the remover to pull the steering wheel. Take the shroud off of the column and you will be able to see what is holding the switch onto the column. Remove the wiring harness and remove screws for the turn signal switch. There might be a star with a pin in the centre. Put the new switch on and put it all back together.
