Will using a scan tool ABS Bleed correct a Proportioning Valve preventing fluid to rear Brakes 2005 Chevy Suburban 1500 Z71

To my knowledge, the porportioning valve can't be bled using the ABS bleed feature of a scan tool and has to be manually bled.

The brakes will need to be bled normally, and GM has a depressor tool specifically made to be installed on the valve while bleeding the brakes: J-39177.

You'll have to bleed the front and rear brakes as normal, but with the tool installed in order to remove the air trapped in the valve.

I only have front brakes on a 1982 GMC 1500..I get no fluid pressure to the rear. Is there a reset on the proportioning valve?

There is no reset on them. What will work sometimes is to completely remove the brake light switch assembly from the valve and slowly push and release your brake pedal a few times. Then reinsert your brake light switch. If this doesn't work you will have to replace the proportioning valve. New price will likely scare you so head for the scrapyard.

None of those things . Just bleed the brakes normally starting from the longest line and ending with the shortest. The proportioning valve will always let brake fluid through, just not enough to lock up the rear brakes until you press heavy on the pedal . It is there so that full pressure to the large front brakes is reduce in proportion to the smaller rear brakes.

What happens when you try to bleed the rear brakes? If nothing comes out, trace each line back toward the proportioning valve--something would be blocking flow of fluid. Disconnect each line at the forward end and see if fluid comes out of the valve openings. You will need a scan tool to complete the bleeding process with ABS. Suggest buying a Chilton's manual for this truck because of the complexity of the ABS system.

1999 Plymouth Breeze - rear brakes locking up

You have a proportioning valve stuck. From the master the brake lines will run down the wheel well to another valve then out to the front calipers and rears when the prop valve sticks or freezes it then causes the rear or front system to lock up or not proportion the system evenly. 2. If that is not the case you may have contamination in the lines or the rubber brake hoses whick allow fluid to pass through it will not allow it to return almost acting like a back check valve therefore keeping you brakes on.

No brake fluid flow to right rear brake

the stratus is know for clasped rear brake hoses .This stops the flow off brake fluid. try opening the brake lines at the master cylinder that go to the rear.pump up brakes first! if you got fluid than check the brake line if this is rear disc brakes on the line at the rear will be a built in proportioning valve.if drum loosen rubber hose line before the rubber part to see if you have fluid. If you do replace the brake hose! On you 74 challenger by the way i love dodge! any way on the valve there is a small button on the front of the proportioning valve that pops out it needs to be tap in lightly. also hit the brake peddel kind of hard a couple off times if that doesn't work. thanks for your question
