Will a 1997 ford explorer computer work in a 1998 ford explorer the motor is a 1998 but the transmission is a 1997

Generally speaking, no.
The computers are pre-programed at the factory for each year and engine-trans combo.
Not to say one truck won't run with the other computer, but the check engine light may stay on and performance may suffer.

Over drive light on shifter blinks and check engine light is lit.

You need to have it scanned for codes. The flashing overdrive light means it has trouble codes that pertain to the transmission.

1998 Nissan Pathfinder break lights stay on although car is off.

Check the brake light switch. It is in the drivers floor board, behind the brake peddle. The switch looks like a box with a button on it. the brake peddle is pressed, and presses the brake light switch. If the switch sticks, the brake lights will stay on.

Are you looking for a serial number of a model number? The 1998 pathfinders have the VG33E engine (introduced in 1996)

4x4 low engagement

Ok let me be frank cshoxie I had actually owned a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder SE. The 4x4 lever is to the left of the gear shift. It looks like a manual tranmission gear shift. I could have engaged my even in DRIVE at LOW speeds. But wans't recommended by manual. However on the shift has 4-low and 4 HIGH but this vehicle would only go in 2-wheel and 4H.

Well since the lights are controlled by the OBD (on board diagnostics), you'll have to reset it. You may be able to do this by simply disconnecting the battery for a few hours. However, a lot of newer vehicles have electronically locked radios which require the manual to be able to be re-enabled.

I'd check out the radio before disconnecting the battery.

The only other ways are to physically disconnect the lights in the dash or get someone with an OBD reader to clear the codes.
