96 Eclipse 2.0 non-turbo Engine has a tapping sound that sounds like its coming from the top of the engine. The sound is loud enough to make it difficult to tell where its coming from. I took the valve cover off and everything looks good. No cracked rockers or anything else unusual. I cranked it over while it was off and didn't hear anything. There was some oil in the plug hole of cyl 1.?Compression checks good.

The mechanic who did the work may have gotten coolant on the drive belts or not sufficiently adjusted the belt tension . I'd replace the belt especially if the sides of the belt are shiny.

"...bleed out the air pressure" makes no sense, so I assume it refers to something else. Removing an engine requires
* carefully and slowly disconnecting the fuel line to bleed out FUEL pressure, which I suspect may be what you read in the manual.
* drain the radiator. This should not have any residual pressure.
* remove the A/C compressor, without disconnecting the A/C hoses. If this is not possible, then the A/C system pressure has to be discharged by an A/C shop to recover the refrigerant. It's not environmentally sound to release refrigerant.to the air. Your car is 20+ years old, and its likely that the A/C system has leaked out all the refrigerant.

try checking the spark plugs if those are ok try the cleaning out the carburetor its really easy and fast same thing happend to my 96 eclipse

Sounds like serious internal engine issues...

Your problem is most likely because you are describing your vehicle as a "Gs". The only similar listings in the catalog are for a "GSX". (The parts counter person probably has no clue that there is a difference) The GSX is only built in a turbo version, therefore you will not find a water outlet for the non-turbo version...it simply does not exist.

Now, if you simply describe it as an Eclipse, there are water outlets listed for the turbo 2.0L, the non-turbo 2.0L and the non-turbo 2.4L engines. You did not bother to mention engine size, so I will list the part numbers for BOTH of the non-turbo engines.

I think its either the oil bump, or the timing chain guide
