Should be on the frame rail on drivers side. In the area of where the driver sits. Follow the two metal lines from the tank to the engine bay and you'll find the filter.

Locatiuon of fuel filter on a 2004 silverado

I'm not sure on an 04', but my 01' Silverado has it mounted to the inner frame rail (under the truck) on the drivers side just behind the drivers door. The fuel line comes out of the tank, runs along the frame, goes into the filter, then continues on to the engine bay.

Looking for fuel filter on 2004 chevy silverado ss 6.0, not on frame rail

Here is the steps for the removal and replacement...getting you the picture and location next. 6.6L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
  2. Drain the fuel from the fuel filter as follows:
    • Install a hose on the water drain on the water-in-fuel sensor.
    • Place the other end of the hose into an approved container.
    • Drain as much fuel as possible from the fuel filter housing.
    • Tighten the water drain on the water-in-fuel sensor.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Water-in-fuel sensor harness connector
    • Fuel filter from the fuel filter/heater element housing
    • Water-in-fuel sensor from the fuel filter

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Water-in-fuel sensor in the fuel filter
NOTE Check the fuel filter/heater element housing and the filter for a dislocated filter seal or foreign debris. Contamination on the filter/heater housing may cause leakage at the fuel filter. Coat the seal with clean engine oil.

    • Fuel filter on the fuel filter/heater element housing
    • Water-in-fuel harness connector
    • Negative battery cables
  2. Prime the fuel system:
    • Pump the primer located on top of the fuel filter 30 times or until stiff.
    • Try to start and run the engine. If the engine does not start, repeat the previous step.
    • Allow the engine to run for 5 minutes at idle.
    • Check for fuel leaks and clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

I have a 04 silverado HD and while driving i loose throttle

replace your fuel filter best way to diagnose this one to start, find a way to monitor your fuel pressure if the filter had no effect, do you have any codes *** up ? and if so what are they, let me know, if not you might have a defective fuel pump, the pressure reading will tell, over 40 psi is good.

Where is the fuel filter

You dont mention what model 1500, 2500,3500 ect. or the engine code (8th VIN digit) thats really needed to answer questions with accuracy. but if you cant find it, between the fuel tank and the engine, its in the fuel tank, and you dont need to replace it until you replace the fuel pump at approx 125-150K miles
