Cars these days have electronic switches connected to the computer system, and they operate simply, until a little glitch shows up. In my case, the brake switch plunger strike pad had disintegrated. This little half inch button goes into a metal pad that presses against the brake switch when the brake is released. The cruise control operates the same, both activated by the brake pedal, both found under the dash. If not this, the switch might be bad. Both found at Advance Auto.
It's the Over Speed AlarmAllows adjusting a set speed. If armed, then an alarm (3 running notes) will sound when vehicle speed is greater than the set speed. Pressing the O/Speed from the above modes, will display the current set speed, and a circled S symbol. Preset Reset to lower or Search to raise the set speed for the speed alert function. To make the set speed the same as the current vehicle speed, press the Reset, and the Search buttons together, then release both. To arm the alarm, wait 4 seconds. The mode will change to the previous selection, and a circled S will remain on to indicate the Over speed alarm has been set. To Disarm the alarm, momentarily press the O/Speed button.
No there is a brake switch to turn on the brake lights when you step on the brake pedal. It is located near the rake pedal under the dash. It has more then likely failed.
orange circle with dashed lines each side indicates worn brake pads, circle with cross through indicates bulb failure. third orange light indicates brake light bulb faiure
Check the brake light switch should be a orange wire with 12v then a white wire with 12v when the pedal is pressed. If htat cks good then ck the hazard switch by moving it up and down and wiggeling the knob with the brake pedal pressed if they start working then your multifunction switch is bad and needs to be replaced.
Under the dash below the steering wheel and above the brake pedal there is a switch. When you depress the brake pedal the switch is activated and the brake lights are lit. It sounds like the switch has loosened and needs to be slightly adjusted and retightened. The switch is held in place by a single screw and nut. This is also the adjusting point for the switch. If you push upward on the brake pedal the lights will probably go out. That slight movement will show you what a small adjustment is most likely needed to correct your problem.
The brake light switch is located under the dash - if you'll look at the brake pedal and follow it up until you see a plastic cylinder with an electrical connection - that should be the brake light switch - they are often difficult to remove (they are in a bad place and hard to get to - sometimes they are threaded as well - sometimes use a clip to hold them in) They have a push-button that contacts the pedal arm - When the brakes are off, the switch is "electrically open" and has no internal connection (no brake lights) when you push the brakes Switch is now "electrically closed", the switch button releases and the switch makes a connection internally to activate the lights - yours has either lost it's mounting and no longer contacts the pedal arm, keeping brake lights on - or has an internal short - keeping them on even when the switch is activated .....This often means that your brake lights do not work correctly (or rather stay lit at all times while you are driving) thus, a definite safety hazard - remove the wiring pigtail, remove and replace the switch and plug the wiring back in - have someone check that they are now working correctly - or use a mirror - (sometimes, on some vehicles there is a rubber plug that fits into the brake lever where it contacts the switch - this plug can fall out or break apart and cause the same problem, so when you get up under the dash to look for it, ensure the parts are there, and I usually activate the pedal with my hand and visually check the mechanicals to ensure proper operation and part presence....) The switch can also be mounted directly to the arm and moves with the pedal - or mounted on the car and is depressed by the pedal - I've seen it done several different ways so use your common sense and you'll be just fine...
look under the dash and find the break pedal. follow the break pedal arm up under the dash. there should be a small switch that the break pedal arm presses in when you push the pedal. this switch can either be bad or it could be out of adjustment and something near by has moved and it is in a bind to where the switch is pressed in all the time.... has it been running your battery down...?
There is brake light switch located under the dash. It is inserted in a metal bracket that is a part of the brake pedal assembly. When you depress the brake pedal the pedal arm moves away from the brake switch allowing a spring loaded plunger to move out of the switch. As the plunger moves out of the switch a set of contacts close in the switch and turn the brake lights on.
You stated the 10amp under hood brake light fuse is good so check to see if you have power on the "orange" wire at the brake switch with pedal all the way up. Then press the pedal down and you should have power on the " light blue" wire going out of the switch.
We will start there, let me know what you find.
