SOURCE: How do I remove the lower ball joint from the

You'll need a joint puller (looks like a big tuning fork). Depending on how it's held on there, you may also need a ring puller, or you may just need to remove the arm and use an impact driver to pound it out. You may even need to replace the whole arm assembly. The uppers on my Tbird are like this.

SOURCE: how do i replace the upper and lower ball joints

Dear Balljoint Replacer.....
This is a very labor intensive repair. The specialty tools that you need will be an air (or electric) die grinder, and an air hammer. If you already have these then GREAT!!! If not then be prepared to invest in a good $500 purchase for these tools.Once you get the vehicle up in the air and the wheels off then place jackstands underneath the frame and the lower control arms on both sides.Keep in mind to keep the jack stands underneath the lower control arms at all times because your suspension will be under load.Remove the brake calipers from both sides and swing them around and out of the way.....no need to break open the brake system....just swing the caliper and whole hose assy out of the way. Once tis is done its time to loosen and remove both upper and lower balljoint nuts...after that is performed then it's time to shock the spindle with a hammer to release the balljoints from the spindle.Your balljoints will then be ready to be removed. Now you have to take your grinder and score your rivets that hold your balljoints in on both the upper and lower so the top of the rivets are ground down to the control arm.Next take a punch and hammer the rivets in a downward movement to release the rivets and you can remove each balljoint like that.
The new balljoints install with nuts and bolts.Install is reverse of disassembly If you have any questions get back to me...HOPE I COULD HELP!!

4x4. what is the socket size for bolts and nuts on upper control arm?

Either 18 MM or 21 MM. If they look the same size as the lower control arm bolts. They are 18 MM. Rarely are upper arms changed. Upper ball joints are fairly common.

2000 Dodge Durango: Loud popping sound near front wheels when braking, or going over a bump, turning into or backing out of driveways.

That sounds like the ball joints. The midsized Dodge is notorious for bad ball joints because the factory used substandard parts. I would not wait to have it repaired. There are documented cases of the Dodges losing the front wheels because of ball joint failure. You need to have them repaired asap. The lower ball joints are usually the noisy ones. If you can afford it, have all four fixed at the same time, But be sure to take care of the lowers right away. Hope this has been of some help.

Need to replace the lower ball joints in my 2002 Dodge Durango SXT. Receiving conflicting advise. Some say that I have to replace the whole control arm with new ball joint. Others say that I can press the...

It looks like if you buy the joint from Chrysler then it comes complete with the arm however there are aftermarket companies that make just the ball joint which can be pressed in and out. It's fairly common for a manufacturer to offer the joint only as a part of the arm while an aftermarket company will offer the ball joint for sale seperately. A hint on these: Buy the best quality ball joint you can get an grease them on a regular basis. Lower ball joints take quite a beating and there is a big quality difference between cheap and good joints.

DOES MY DURANGO HAVE ABS IN THE FRONT? DOES IT HAVE AN UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT?

If it has the 4 wheel anti lock brake system, yes. All Durangos came with rear wheel anti lock brakes, standard. I would look to see if there is a black cable going to the front wheel hub area. Or any markings on the vehicle stating 4 wheel anti lock brakes or rear wheel anti lock brakes, it may say on the brake pedal. You do have upper and lower ball joints.
