I tried the above solution and it did not work. The owners manual is junk too. What did work is this:
Turn the car on. Press the car "i" info button to scroll to the oil life screen. Press and hold the "check mark" button and the indicator should reset back to 100%

I have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred and the ''wrench'' warning light came on. It is a AWD. What does it mean and what could the probable cause be?

It simply means that its time for routing service and maintenance on your car. This will normally be reset when you take it in for an oil change. 1. Ford has issued a Special Service Message (SSM), stating that the owner's manual procedure is incorrect, and giving a revised procedure. The following is the text of the SSM:

18562 2005 FREESTYLE/FIVE HUNDRED/MONTEGO - OIL LIFE RESET PROCEDURE
THE 2005 FREESTYLE, FIVE HUNDRED, AND MONTEGO VEHICLE OWNER'S GUIDE OIL LIFE RESET PROCEDURE IS INCORRECT. TO RESET OIL LIFE ON VEHICLES WITHOUT MESSAGE CENTER, USE THE TRIP/RESET BUTTON TO TOGGLE THE ODOMETER DISPLAY TO 'OIL LIFE XX%'. THEN PRESS AND HOLD THE BUTTON FOR 10 SECONDS TO RESET TO 100%. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL BEEP WHEN THE OIL LIFE IS RESET.
FOR VEHICLES WITH A MESSAGE CENTER, PRESS 'SETUP' TO DISPLAY 'PRESS RESET FOR SYS CHECK'. PRESS AND RELEASE 'RESET' TO START SYSTEM CHECK. WHILE 'OIL LIFE XX%' IS DISPLAYED, PRESS AND HOLD 'RESET' UNTIL 'IF NEW OIL HOLD RESET' IS DISPLAYED, THEN RELEASE. PRESS AND HOLD 'RESET' AGAIN UNTIL 'OIL LIFE SET TO 100%' IS DISPLAYED. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL BEEP WHEN THE OIL LIFE IS RESET.

My pontiac g6 2007 says the oil is at 20% what does this mean

That is your Oil Life indicator. That means that is is almost time for an oil change. If your oil has recently been changed, then it was not reset when the oil was changed.

This information is covered in the Owner's Manual for your vehicle on page 211.

If you do not have an Owner's Manual, You can get a free PDF version at the link below.

After oil change the warning light ( Oil change required ) still ON

You need to reset it manually after you change the oil. If you have the owners manual it will explain how to do this. If you don't have it you get get a PDF version online at ford.com.

2006 Ford Explorer owners manual.

Essentially you need to scroll through the message center until system scan appears. enter it and a message will come up oil life press reset if new or oil life hold reset if new. Follow those instruction and the oil life will eventually change to 100%.

After an oil change, there always seems to be a problem with the "reset" for oil-change reminder...even when instructions are explicitly followed...there seems to be an additional step not shown...

Press reset until OIL LIFE is displayed. Hold in button for 10 seconds. Select oil life and hold in button until it resets. It should be same in your owners manual. You can always ask what the step is, but they may be annoyed that you are not using them for oil changes. If you have them perform the oil change, then its included. Its better for you because they will be using quality Honda Oil filters and oil.

My digital dash oil lvl is reading at 16% what does that stand for? 2006 Chevrolet cobalt LT coupe

Hello. What that means is that only 16% of your car's oil life remains before you should get an oil change. This is a better method of knowing when to change the oil than the old fashioned rule of thumb of merely changing the oil every 3,000 miles.
When you do have the oil changes, the counter can be reset back to 100%. If you have your oil changed at a garage, they will reset the counter for you. otherwise look in the owner manual for the instructions on how to reset the counter. regards, Joe
