Have a scanner put on the system and read the code that should tell you what needs to be repaired. It can also reset the ecm for you as well and turn off the light.
Several autoparts stores like Autozone, Oreilys and Advance will scan your vehicle for free and tell you what Codes are present. The scanners are different, so the store would need a scanner that has the ability to diagnose the traction control system with the ABS.
The Traction control works with the ABS to limit wheel slip. Intermittent flashing of the Traction light can occur, sometimes the brake pads are worn and do not respond as well as they should. The system counts the RPM of each wheel, applies braking and can interrupt power of the engine.
Your friend is right. Your best bet is to have a scanner hooked up to your vehicle to determine the origin of the fault by retrieving any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC).
i would hook up a code tester to find out exactly what codes it picked up and why, and then repair them accordingly. also the abs light is telling you that it has recognized a problem somewhere in the system, and it most likely has interferred with the traction system. if you don't have a code tester, and if the car is safe to drive, go to your closest auto part store and let them hook up a code tester light and see what the problem is.
if the light is on there is codes some systems are not on the can bus network and require you too goo too that actuall computer in this case ABS module wicth also controls the traction control system and you will need a good scanner the 100 doller made in china ones wont do it take it too a shop they will probly get the info for a some fee it coul be one of the whel speed sensors or the abs module itself
have the car scanned with a scanner capable of reading ABS codes, get back to me with the code and we'll go from there. sounds like like one of the wheel sensors is bad. this controls both ABS and TRACTION CONTROL
