IT IS THE WIRING TO THE TRANS, THE FLUID HAS GOT UP INTO IT AND CAUSING YOUR PROBLEM, SEEN IT TWICE!
Same thing for me as well. I completely yanked the starter out and tested it on the bench, working starter. Tested the yellow wire with the VDC meter to see that I was getting 12V with ignition key engaged. Sure enough. Tossed the starter back in and started right up.
This issue came up out of the blue, not one warning it was not going to start. My advice to you is have someone hold the key engaged to start and then short the yellow wire metal and red wire stud on the starter with a screwdriver. If it starts, you have a corroded wire connection. Clean it and smack the di-electric grease right to it and be on your way for a few dollars.
the issue is defintely the yellow wire. If the connector is loose try disconnecting the yellow wire and bend the tab to put a slight bend in it. then slide the yellow connector back on with some di-electric grease. This is how I finally solved my issue, the connector is no longer loose.
thanks, thats exactly what happend according to dealer, also they did not charge me.

I know it sounds weird but it has nothing to do with your transmission... Its the cars anti theft system which is triggered by a worn out key or a glitch in the system, had to have my 2007 jeep grand Cherokee towed this morning, an all they had to do was reprogram my anti theft system. Also made a new key with the remote(only way it will work since it has a required chip in it to start the jeep) just for precaution. SO DON'T REPLACE ANYTHING..... Until you at least haver a DEALER make a new key and reprogram your car.....
FYI the cost for the repair and tow and key was 280.
Your answer makes lots of sence. I had the cars trans. serviced last month and light went on again.. I know a friend worked on my car and you have to reset something anti- theftt. I need new key anyways. Thanks.
I had trans. serviced 1 month ago and did it again. My key is worn out so maybe this is the problem
Good luck to ya, play the guessing game with the no start jeep! This is so irritating as you know. Again, good luck to you!!

you are wrong, this is a no crank. by OP>
your car cranks but the ASD drops
ASD drops for 1 of 8 reasons
one is VTSS,VTA, SKIM failures.
called immoblized.
the IMMO on jeeps do not kill the starter.
facts there. sorry.
no cranks are easy
with a volt meter we know whats wrong in 15min work.
start at the starter relay, is best.
if the cluster tells you trans overheat
the the TRS switch is failing,
the TRS will tell the PCM its bad.
and if the PCM SEES THat the starter relay will NEVER close.
not only that scans told you that if you had LOOKED !
yes the starter wire can corrode, 100 years now. same, oldest story in the book.
even my pappies Model A ford did that.
rust there. or gunked up.
yes the starter hot wire test, 100 years now.
same test. not new at all.

I'm having the same problem. Happened last summer (two new starters) and just last week. Last summer they replaced a leaking seal in a line to the transmission and said the fluid was low. The other day I noticed (before it was towed) that the transmission cooler line was very wet, and it was wet under the passenger side of the engine. Could it be that the fluid leaks out enough so that when I drive it a half-mile, the fluid gets warm enough to kick in the overtemp sensor, not letting the car start? Had no probs over the winter when it was cold. Took it out the first hot day In April and and the same old problem is back. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Hi I have an 07 GC laredo 3.7. This happened to me last summer just out of the blue, I sent jeep to service and they said the starter wire was corroded, its been fine since until yesterday and bam I am stuck again and calling for a tow truck. Dash says same thing "Trans over temp" its almost 1 year to the date of when it did it last year. So its been towed and is at service garage now. I hope to get it back today and this does not require several hundred bucks to fix. Both times my jeep had been parked for a couple days or yesterday it was parked like 5 hours and not driven. It has just turned 88,000. When I get it back this time I will repost and tell you what they did this time. I like my jeep and I really take care of it, however this type of thing where you are just stranded with no warning is not acceptable at all, then the issue of trying and trying to figure out what is wrong. My son also has a jeep but he has the 5.7 Hemi and it is nothing but a huge electrical problem. I will never again buy another jeep, in fact I may just sell it cause as I said this type of issue in totally unacceptable in every possible way. Good luck to all and I will let you know what I find out this time.
Well, they say it was the Ignition Switch. Its been replaced at a cost of 240.00. So far so good. As I said I also had the "Trans over temp" when jeep was not even drivin. Mine had no click or any other sound when trying to start it, it just did nothing at all. From what I see this a very easy fix for those do it yourself types, had I known or even thought I would have done it myself! The part itself is $40.00 and all the rest was labor. And it looks real easy to me to change out. I sure hope this the end of my issue with this, only time will tell I suppose. The first time it was corroded starter wire, that fix lasted almost 1 year, this time Ignition Switch. So hope this helps you all a bit and good luck!!
Just bear in mind that 9 x's out of 10 this has nothing at to do with the tranny, its the crazy elec system in these jeeps.
this is USA car, not europe with a diesel
fact is I see people here mixing engine.s trans and countries, like crazy. (why?)
the diesel in europe runs a different trans.
and and external TCM.
its different. next time post country and drive line, and magic happens, no LIES>!!!
what is ECT reading
what was sensor reading above,
200f
250f
or infinity
each reading tells you what happened
and what to do next.
if it reads infinity, then the line is open
what more needs to said there, open is OPEN.
the thermistor is a calibrated, thermal resistor. it has range of legit readings
never shorted, never open!!!
same rules as the ECT but has different ohms range.
all this is covered in ASE classes.?
brush up>?
the ECU measures the current flowing in the
thermistor, it then takes that current,
not magic, and looks it up in a look up table
and discovers the listed temperature.
out of range is short, open. (dtc now)
in range is a valid temperatures.
if the temp is over 140f it sets a DTC for that. like clock work.,
the PCM does not tell you, oh by the way the engine is near there too. ooops.!!!!!!!
YOU MUST LOOK THERE NOW. (well FIRST)
we did this in industry for 47 years now.
it's not new to industry but is to cars.
cars are late to this table.
called electronics... way late... in fact.
but changing fast.. too fast it seems?.
car makers from 1996 to now are playing catch-up to our technology, slow and sure.
But there is no magic in finding intermittent
it takes hard work in complex systems.
i cut my teeth on military gear, viet nam era. complex systems. (ECM)

I had this problem in Dec 2012 and they replaced the starter. It happened again on the same date in 2013. (Coincidence?) The shop found a service bulletin that stated this was a common issue with 2007 Jeep V6's with the same mileage as mine (around 115k). The fix was to reflash the onboard computer to default settings. They also updated the computer's software. It was worked fine since then. The tech advised that if it happens again that I can take it to any automotive parts store and have them reset the computer's factory defaults - probably at no cost.
Anything new on this dawn338 or papappy?
Yes - some months ago it wouldn't start again - even at the dealership. Mechanic said he found a corroded wire/cable tp the starter. Moved it and start - move it again and no start. Said it was corroded inside. Replaced it and I have had no problem since
it is the yellow wire, read my post above. My wire was loose, bending the tab to put a little pressure on the connector is what solved it for me. Cost me nothing to fix.

Usually answered in minutes!
anyone get this resolved yet? My 2007 Jeep GC has the same issue. Dealership replaced the wireless remote module in March; some ignition module in May, and now I need it towed tomorrow as it's not starting (again). . .. certainly they should be able to diagnose and fix this issue??
no it dosent. why to you think OP cars fails like yours, why?
does it crank or not;.
that is first, and not one time stated here.
why?>???
cranking and running are to hugely different processes. (and parts and wires) and more.
the problem is not telling what YOUR CAR DOES AND DOES NOT DO. that be IT.
ONE MORE>
the 4.7L and 5.2L uses another box. a/t
it does not use the NAG1 box.
this box, non 3.7L nag1
have a 2 wire transmission overheat sensor
unlike the NAG1 1wire.
that means no false transmission temp warnigs.
in those cases scanning for TRS errors is first. if the starter relay is dead only.
see?
The pcm cuts the starter for.
TRS failure and engine overheat, or in ETC learn mode.(drive by wire calibration learn modes)
not posted no crank or which engine it there, is a FAIL,
