Remove the rear console section (two screws, one on each side at the rear of the section), then remove the front console section (four push-pins, two on each side and two screws at the back of the console revealed after removing the rear section) and remove the screws holding the shifter plate down or try to work the bulb holder out. The holder twist into the underside of the plate on the driver side of the plate.

Automatic transmission does not go out of park. change brake switch no help. need to find interlock control unit. could it be the neutral safety switch.

The transmission is locked into park by a solenoid activated little pin that stops the shifter from moving. It is attached to the shifter area under the console. You say you replaced the brake light switch, but did you check the brake lights to see if they work?

2001 dodge 2500 5.9l 4 speed automatic shift problems

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

How do i free my gearstick

The car has a brake light powered Park lock, so if the brake lights are not working when the pedal is pressed the car will not come out of park. Check the brake lights first. Also the owners manual should have a set of instructions to bypass the part lock, it varies with each car but some you turn the key to just short of the on position and wiggle the shifter while doing that, others there is a button hidden on the shift console. I would look it up but MB doesn't allow free access to the owners manuals of thier cars and trucks.
