try coasting at 10 mph, place transmission in neutral and try placing in 4 wheel low while rolling at 10 mph then if selector moves you can then put transmission back in drive .same way going back to hi 4
Check the vacuum lines by the brake fluid resivoir, they rot out and operate the 4X4. There are two that operate it and one is a vent. When I rebuilt the transmission because of a bad sun shell, I replaced all of the lines.
on each conventional auto transmission equipped car there is a steel wire/or a connection mechanism from shifter to transmission. sometimes is goes out of adjustment. you need to adjust it.(or goes loose)
yours is in steering column. actually back of steering column. there is a bracket. it must be loose. you will need to remove steering column panel first to reach it and you will see those bolts. you will need to be at your back when you are trying to reach it. you will need torx 27 ( i guess) find a good flash light to see the space.
i hope this helps.
ps. someone needs to hold shifter while your are adjusting.
It could be the catalytic converter. While vehicle is off and parking brake on, go under the vehicle while it is cool and tap on the exhaust. See if the noise doesnt sound the same as you tap where the exhaust goes into the bigger section by the transmission.
B4 you pay the $600 check the vacuum lines, the one near the top center of the firewall. Mine was disconnected I plugged it in and I then had my 4x4 back after 3 yrs. My light would just blink and never engage. hope this helps
ALWAYS engage Parking Brake BEFORE putting vehicle into "Park". Reverse the process when you want to get out of "Park" (hold down brake pedal, put car into desired gear, THEN disengage Parking Brake). Good luck!
did you take the short shaft loose? even if it were seized it would still come out.you may have to wiggle it back and forth a bit to work it loose but it should come out.
i have 2006 f250 4x4 will not engage unless i lock in hubs. once hubs locked in i can engage 4x4 by using electronic selector. why will it not engage when hubs are in auto and electronic selector is on 4high
