Feb 7, 2007 - Sometimes when I press the gas pedal seems like nothing happens car doesn't accelerate at all only it loses the power and finally comes to a Stop, and sometimes it recovers (shakily) and keeps on truckin'. ... Does the engine shake andstall when you put the transmission into ... car stalls if gas pedal not pressed.?

An easy thing to check first is your air filter. If it is clogged, it can cause that problem. I speak from experience. Had the exact same thing happen with an '85 Oldsmobile.

probaly lost fuel pressure, from fuel pump going out, or relay went out. Need more info such as, did engine stop running completly, or did it start back up etc. post back please.

The brake system has air in it or a leak past the seals if it does this while stopped.

Are you losing fluid from the reservoir? A leak.

Can you improve the feel of the pedal by pumping it? Air.

Maybe both if the system has not be flushed or maintained for a while.

It's stalling at lights because of no brake lights. Meaning the brake light switch and transmission power to shut off the overdrive is not working. Any time you touch the brake, overdrive is turned off because power to trans is stopped when brake lights come on. Both these operations are performed by the same switch under the dash and mounted so that when the brake pedal is depressed, the switch button comes out and turns on the brake lights in turn shutting down the overdrive. Adjust or replace that brake light switch and you're good to go.

You might check out the transmission. 0700 is a transmission code. You may not be getting a down shift.

The neutral safety switch is not part of the break light circuit, is part of hte reverse lights circuit.

Here is a picture of the switch, is located under the dash on top of the steering column. Cost $25 available at most autopart stores.


This is the StopLight switch $15 available at most autoparts stores.
This switch is located on top of brake pedal and is hot at all times, when you press the brake pedal, the lights should come on, it does not matter if the key is On or Off.

have u checked the fuel filter, how many kilomiters on it could be a fuel pump, or ignition censior

this sounds like the clutch slave is goin out, this unit is on the outside of the transmission. Possibly losing pressure!! Your transmission does not use transmission fluid, but instead gear oil. Have the following checked:
1. Clutch Slave (possibly worn)-this will cause soft or hard clutch pedal feel, slipping clutch, unintended clutch release, hard gear engagement, no/insufficient clutch movement.

*2. Clutch pedal Mounting Plate (possibly cracked)-this will cause improper gear engagement, hard gear engagement, soft pedal feel, insufficient clutch movement.

*this plate is located above the clutch pedal itself, apply pressure on the pedal with one hand while inspecting the plate for fatigue cracks(use a bright flashlight). This is very common on these models. This problem will eventually get worst and most mechanics never figure this out.
