For the most part they are under the cowl pack that sit on top of the spark plug between the fuel injectors give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Look more closely at the 1 and 4 coil, also, check for trigger signal to these coils. I mostly suspect the trigger unit.

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi galant. I replaced the fuel pump, spark plus and coil packs. It still won't start. Any ideas?

ignition controller (computer) - easy to check. hook up one or two of the old coils with old spark plugs. make sure plugs are touching metal on the motor (for grounding), have someone crank starter while you CAREFULLY observe plugs, you should see spark at plugs. if spart, i'd check for timing sensor problems, if no spark then problem is in ignition computer.

How do you change sparkplugs on a2002 mitsubishi galant

Unbolt them with a long extension on a socket wrench and a spark plug socket. Best not to try attaching multiple extenders to reach because a pain to get off the new plugs after tightening

Service engine light on 2002 mitsubishi galant

it could be the spark plugs, at least that is what it was for mine, if you have over 50k miles without a spark plug change i highly suggest one, also a oil /transmission change would be great for your car too if you haven't done those reciently. I would also suggest using a higher grade gas, sometimes this fixes the trick too.
If you try all those and still experiencing hard transitions please let me know and i'll try a more indepth analysis on your car.
Thanks jyotsna.

2002 mitsubishi galant

Has it overheated lately?
My wife overheated our Galant and it just stopped working, it cranks but that's it.
I pulled the sparkplugs and found them wrapped in a gewey jelly like substance. Like an oil/antifreeze combo.
I am going to replace the entire motor for $1000 as taking it to the mechanics to theorize and practice may cost more.
