I would check all the basics like spark plugs and check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold.With a can of 2+2 carb cleaner while engine is running --if idle goes up or down that is were your leak is--
check egr too, Lee
If it's a Diesel motor, it doesn't have spark plugs and probably doesn't have an EGR valve. Someone shouldn't be posting advise...
I wouldn't check tire pressure on a hovercraft, likewise why would you look for spark plugs on a diesel motor?
I take that back about EGR, but I still think it makes no sense to look for problems with an EGR valve just because you see smoke in the exhaust.
Just to clarify things for others: Diesel motors have glow plugs instead of spark plugs. They get hot like a filament in a light bulb. When the cylinder is filled with diesel mist and air, then compressed to a very high ratio, it ignites where the glow plug is. Not the same as a gas motor needing a spark instead of compression to ignite.
