When the car is cool i would remove the coolant (radiator) tank cover and start the car then check to see if there is flow in the tank and see if the coolant level is really low if so fill it up to the proper level but ifthis is ok look to see if there is any flow in the radiator you should be able to see the water flowing around in the radiator or tank.
If you do not see any flow i would check the water pump outlet hose to see if there is any pressure if not then i would try to replace the water pump but if there is good pressure I would suspect the thermnostat it could be stuck shut thus not allowing the water to flow through the engine. in this case replace it.
And finaly if the radiator it'self is clogged it wont let the water circulate thru the system thus overheating the engine and you might even have a faulty thermostate temperature sensor but since you are saying that the fan is kicking on like it should i would not suspect this ok
I hope all of this is very helpful for you
Best regards MIchael

Hello there again thanks for the post
ok if youare seeing bubblees then you definatly have a problem either in the pump area or you could even have a problem in the cylinder head gasket please check the oil to see if it is a whitish color if so bad bad you might have a gasket that has blown or worse but if all checks out good than you have a leak probably in the gasket for the water pump or one of your hoses are drawing in air somewhere ok so please check them too
Also when the vehical is running see if you can see any visable water leaking in the vicinity of the water pump area if it is in the middle of he pump area than the pump is going out on you and needs to be replaced ok

    Hello there again
I forgot to add one thing if your thermostat gasket is leaking this will also make bubbles in the tank so you might want to check this out too ok
Please keep me posted on how this is going even though this has been answered i like to make sure that my customers have the problem solved then i am satisfied
    best regards michael

I have a 1996 Previa and the same problem.I replaced the thermostat and the water pump,it was ok for about three weeks and started overheating again. This time we found out that there is a pin that goes in the water pump and it fell out. Unfortunetly the van hasn't been worked on again so I don't know why the pin fell out or how to fix the problem.

Hi my Toyota previa year 1993 ,the co2 procent is to high ,i did check the computersystem and it said that i need to change the Oxygensensor ,so i did so and i also did change the plugs and oil and...

mcdevito75 here, Waterpump will not cause over heating unless it is leaking prestone., First make sure you have radiator full of prestone, mixture of prestone on the prestone package, usually 50% prestone and 50% percent water. Most auto parts stores have a gauge you can buy to check the prestone mixture. Overheating can be a faulty thermostat, if yours has not been changed in 2 years, chaange it to a 180 degree thermostat. Also make sure all belts on the engine are adjusted, power steering, alternator, etc as a general rule 1/2 inch play in each belt connected between each pully.

1993 toyota previa. car starts when cold, but if i drive car 4 a while and turn it off it wont start until i let it sit 4 a couple of hours.

Corroded positive battery terminal. Clean both the terminal and the battery post and tighten clamp bolt. Don't just tighten bolts. There's a layer of corrosion that conducts when cold/damp and gets warm during starting and charging, dries out, and then won't conduct.

93 toyota previa won't start if i try to within 20 minutes

The reason I asked if you had your starter worked on recently is whoever did the work may not have installed a simple but critical part while doing the repair. Chevrolet had the same issue years ago; the starter sits very close to the exhaust, and gets very hot. If the starter gets too hot, “it will do nothing”. The issue was resolved by putting a thin, insulated shield between the starter and exhaust. The repair is quite simple, yet very effective. Putting a starter heat shield in place will resolve your issue.

I hope this information helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.
