Your only half right. hub sizing and hub centric or lack thereof will make or break what fits and what won't. Bolt pattern is just one of many things to look for. Adapters may be needed.
Also keep in mind that offsets might not be the same, and will greatly affect your caliper / shock / fender lip clearance.
No, But Nissan and Toyota fit. To find a rim that fits, just count the lugs, duh, then measure the distance center to center of 2 lug studs, next to each other, you can measure edge to edge, center to center, it's all the same, just make sure you get it exact, then go looking at cars in the parking lot, when you find one that fits, and has the same number of bolts, you'll know what to look for.
