Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly

It certainly is the master cyclinder that has failed. The piston seals are passing fluid by them and your feeling a mushy pedal or having to "pump" them to get the brakes to work.

A word to the wise once this symptom appears the day will come when you hit the brake and nothing will happen. (i.e an accident waiting to happen)

PLEASE do not ignore the need to get it fixed for you own personal safety.

On a purchase parts note: There is nothing wrong with getting a rebuilt master cylinder to replace the one in your car. (NAPA / Autozone)

Thanks for using FixYa! If you need further assistance just post here.

Brakes going to the floor will not stop master cylinder full no leaks around car what could this be

Sound like you have a Master Cylinder failure, you brake fluid is full, and no pedal resistance, if the brakes feel spongy then you may just need to have your brakes bleed, and got air in you brake lines, if you found that your brake resivoir tank low and added some recently, then maybe it pulled air into your lines. Good luck. Rick.

I HAVE A 1998 LEXUS GS 400 AND THE BRAKE SIGN ON THE DASH IS ON AND MAKING A LOUD BUZZIN NOISE THE BRAKE FLUID IS FULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKES IS NOT ON IT GOES AND COMES WHEN IT FEELS ALSO THE ABS IS ON AND...

The first thing I would check is you emergency brake lever. Sometimes a coin or something will fall into the mechanism preventing you from releasing the e. brakes fully. Usually that buzzer means that the brakes are still on. If you're not having any other problems with the brakes, this is where I would look first.

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, will slow the car a little, but wont fully brake. master cylinder is fine, calipers and pads are new, brake lines look okay, it's holding brake fluid fine, lines...

must be something you have overlooked. clamp off the front brake hoses and rear hose. if you dont have the propper clamps use g clamps or locking pliars. try the pedal then. if it still goes to the floor its either air in the lines or the master cylinder is no good..Bleed the master cylinder at the lines first, then work back.

Brake low pedal

Many vechicals required maintenance to the brakes. Check your fuilds, usually pedel to floor means lack of fluids and also air in your break lines. Try cleaning grease your pins get the condition up to par. While you have the wheels off have a friend pump the brakes pedal and leave pedal to the floor Bleed your brake line one at a time there is a screw on the caliper release (usually on japan car 10mm screw) and tighten back up repeat proccess two times to brakes all around. Make you should you have brake fuild on hand buy the big bottle DOT3. If this process doesn't help than your would need to replace the master cyclinder, and booster
