I have a 1996 Oldsmobile ciera sl the car runs great but it will all of a sudden die while accelerating while idling or while driving on the freeway It is completely random. When it dies I will pull over and after a couple minutes of turning the engine over it will start running for a second or two and die (like it had ran out of gas) and then it will start up again like there was nothing wrong at all. Then it will run perfect for sometimes 300 miles and sometimes 20 miles it is very random. I have replaced the fuel filter and fuel regulator. Do you have any Idea of what it could be?
I would try replacing the ignition module located on the front of the engine where the plug wires connect. The ignition moduel is where the ignition coils them selves screw down to and a harnes plugs into.
I had the same exact problem with my 96 ciera. It's the fuel pump located in gas tank. The next time it happened I reached under the gas tank and pounded on it with my fist.It started right up.Replaced fuel pump and no more problem.
We had the same problem have replaced about as many parts as you have. Try checking the idle air control motor part # cv10015 sold by Delphi. The end should push in and pull out without falling apart if its good ours was stuck in and when pulled out came completely out shouldn't do this. Could start your car as well if bad! Hope this solves the problem for you!
