To get the axle out of the hub, you have to take the nut off the axle shaft on the outside, and if you're lucky, you can turn the wheels all the way to the side that you're working on, and you may be able to pry it toward the transmission. If it won't work that way, you have to take the strut loose so the hub can tilt outward, and then you'll be able to remove it. Once the nut is off, the outside will come out with prying. Getting the nut off usually takes a hefty inpact wrench capable of at least 300-350 ft lbs. Remember that the nut must be replaced every time and cannot be reused. to get the other end out of the transmission, pry on it, and it will pop out. Only a snap ring holds it in the transmission. Be prepared for the oil that's going to leak out when you do this. Installation is reverse of removal. You'll want to have an alignment done afterwards. You can use someone stepping on the brakes to minimize the impact on the transmission when removing the nut.

You have to remove the front hub to get enough room to get the old axle out and the new one in. Remove the axle nut, washer and then tap the axle loose from the hub. Once that is done, work on removing the hub. Good luck and keep me posted if you need more information.

What size is the nut on the front hub?

I belive its a 32 mm socket that fits it, if the axle has been replaced it may be a 34 or 36 mm socket to remove, this nut is on real tight, i would go to a garage and have them loosen it for you and then tighten it just a bit to get to where you need to go and work on the van, i do this at work, i try to help people out i will loosen the nut and then spray thread on the axle to help them loosen it at home, hope this is helpful, good luck.
