It's a challenge! I had to use an 8 inch extension, a universal (wobbler), and a 4 inch extension between the socket and the ratchet, then run the whole assemblage in from the front -- over the oil filter and motor mount. There was just enough room to get a finger up to the bolt to guide the socket into position. Good Luck!

How do you install a starter on a 1995 nissan Pick up? Remove the whole engine?

That shouldn't be necessary. - Disconnect the negative battery terminal first (always), then the positive. - Follow the positive lead to either the solenoid or the starter with solenoid; if the solenoid is not mounted on th starter, follow the cable leaving the solenoid to find the starter. - The starter should have sufficient clearance and is mounted at the junction of the transmission's bell housing and the engine block. - Disconnect the incoming cable from battery or solenoid.
They normally have only 2 or 3 bolts to remove and will then pull right out.
I recommend to anyone that they should have an aftermarket service manual if they intend to do any work on their vehicles and I like Haynes over Chilton. They recently dropped their prices $5 US to $20 and this is a real bargain if you get stuck:

You might check your local library, they may have a donated copy to loan or eBay where you might also save a few dollars.

How do i replace the starter on a 1996 nissan pickup?

you hav to do it from underneath.put on jack stands remove battery cables from battTry to remove electrical wires from starter.Get a peice of paper and write down or draw a diagram of the location of wires.Get a ratchet and 12 inch extension witg a 23 mm socket.the lower bolt comes out fairly easy. The top bolt takes a little finessing,go to it up over the top of starter, if you cant get the socket on the bolt good replace the socket with 13mm swivel socket.Replace using same procedure the last thing hooking the batt back up {very important] Good luck.

Where is the starter on a nissan sentra 1995

The Starter is right next to the oil filter in a 1995 Nissan Sentra. You will need a floor jack and two jack stands.
To Remove:
Negative Terminal From Battery.
  1. Then, get under the car, and disconnect the electrial connector (easier with a slotted screwdriver)
  2. Then using a 12 or 14mm socket, remove the bolt you can see mounting the starter to the engine.
  3. Now, pop open the hood. Get a deep socket, knuckle joint, extensions, etc.
  4. From above, you will remove the second and last bolt.
  5. If done properly, you should finish within 2+ hours.

Can't get the starter out of a 1991 Nissan pickup.

The second bolt is hidden way up and tucked in near the solenoid. You need to setup a ratchet with extensions/socket (14mm) combination that is just a little longer than the starter motor. If you just can't picture where the bolt is, then go down to the parts store and look at/purchase the replacement starter to see how it mounts up.
There are two bolts for the starter mount and one nut for the main starter power lead. There is one plug for the starter key switch.
Disconnect plug. Loosen lower bolt. Remover upper bolt. Remove lower bolt. Twist starter so you can remove main power cable nut (be sure to have disconnected the battery first!) Pull starter.

I have a 1995 nissan pickup, 4 cylinder. Does the starter come out from the top right or below the truck on the right. I can't seem to get my hands on the bolts.

The starter has to be removed from the top through the right side of the engine. Removing the bracket holding the gas filter allows enough room for the starter and solenoid to pass through the opening. I had to use a 14 mm wrench instead of a socket to remove the bolts as there is no room for the socket wrench even with extensions.

Putting on a starter

According to the manual, it's pretty straightforward. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Then remove all wires connected to the starter/solenoid -- one heavy wire from the battery, and one or two smaller wires. Then remove the bolts which attach the starter to the engine. The starter is at the right side of the engine at the rear.

Installation is the reverse of the above. Make sure you have all wires attached and tight before you reconnect the battery ground cable.
