P1457 is the EVAP canister system, including the popular vent-shut valve underneath the left-rear seat. Check out this thread, I put something towards the bottom.

P1457 won't make the car run bad at all. It just means the EVAP canister & the related system of hoses & valves isn't airtight.

Check this stuff in this order. As soon as you find something that doesn't behave like it should, fix or replace it. Then hope it was the only thing wrong with the system...

Some background for the electrical troubleshooting:
All the solenoid valves have constant +12v supply from the main relay. When the ECM wants to energize a valve, it closes the ground side of it's circuit. If the +12v supply is broken, then the ECM can't energize the valve. If the wire to the ECM is shorted to ground, then the valve is energized even when the ECM doesn't want it to be.

EVAP Purge Control valve - between intake manifold & valve cover.
Valve should be normally closed, so it will hold vacuum when it's not energized. Ground is supplied by pin A6 of the ECM to open the valve. So jumper pin A6 to ground, turn on the ignition, and check again - this time it should NOT hold vacuum.

EVAP 2-way valve - underneath the car roughly under the left-rear seat.
It's a little can with 3 hose barbs & a solenoid valve attached to it. Leave the connection on top, disconnect both on the side, attach MityVac to lower one. Normally open, when the solenoid valve is energized, it should hold vacuum.

EVAP Vent Shut valve - attached to the charcoal canister underneath the car.
Normaly open - when ECM closes pin A4 to ground, it should hold vacuum.

EVAP Charcoal Canister - the big can under the car, about under the left-rear seat.
Leak test: Connect all the hoses together, plug the Vent Shut valve, connect the MityVac. Pump vacuum while watching the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor. You can read FTP sensor voltage with a scan tool, or use a voltmeter between pins A29 & C18 at the ECM. Pump down to 1.5v & it should hold that vacuum for at least 20 seconds.

EVAP 2-way valve vacuum & pressure test.
If you get this far you'll want the manual for a good picture of how to connect the hoses. Keep pumping the vacuum pump & it should stabilize between 6 & 16 mm Hg of vacuum. Then pump pressure, it should stabilize at 8 mm Hg or more of pressure.

Then there's a test of the ORVR Vent Shut valve, which is located on top of the gas tank. You check vacuum & pressure at a couple hoses alongside the fuel filler pipe. If the valve is bad you drop the gas tank to replace it...

My car is a 2000 Honda accord, engine light came on checked gas cap,it was ok,shop checked it with machine and code P 1457 came up.What does it mean, & and how do i fix it?

P1457 90 EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System) Possible causes
- Missing Fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
It means that your fuel tank isn't airtight. It could be a crack in the filler pipe, a loose hose or even a blown gasket at the fuel gauge sender.
Your car does a vacuum check on the fuel system now and then. If it detects it's not air tight, it throws a code. Now, the gas capis the most common thing. But from the fuel filter to the filler neck something is not right. Look for a small gas leak, stick your head under the car and give it a whiff. see if you smell it, if you have a garage put sheets of news paper under your car over night and see if any leeks drip on it. There's other things but try those first.

the P1457 is EVAP system, P1457 is EVAP system leak detected (control canister). It's probably just your gas cap. Make sure it's clicked at least 3 times. and then see if lights out. if cap seal is bad it will give this code also. good-day !

P1457 honda light off but still reads code

The light on the dash, should do a bulb check when you first start the car. (bulb should illuminate for 3 seconds) after that the light will go out. then if there is a code in the computer it will come right back on . bulb could be burned out. a po 1457 is a evap code which is fumes or fuel vapores from the fuel tank .these fumes go through vacuum lines from the tank, back to the vacuum canister under the hood. then these vapors are purged to the engine to be burned with the fuel. you need to check all vacuum hoses going from the tank ,to the charcoal canister (vacuum canister) this is most cases about the size of a coffee can .around the front of the engine compartment. black plastic. with vacuum lines going to it. if there is a vacuum hose cracked, or off .it would cause a po 1457. service manual says- evaporative emissions ( evap) control system leakage (evap canister system) this problem is hard to repair eve for the skilled tech good luck

1457 is a leak in the charcoal canister or its plumbing system. my money says its in your plumbing. clogged/disconnected lines.

really though, the 1457, could be anything in your evap emmissions system. canister purge solenoid, 2 way bypass valve, fuel tank pressure sensor, canister vent shut valve, alot of rubber hoses, alot of hard plastic lines, evap canister, etc,etc,ect,etc.blah, blah,blah.

a good DIGITAL multimeter and vacuum pump will ease your pinpointing.

im not sure if haynes or helms carry the info on troubleshooting this problem, but, if they do, it'll be good as a reference map.

PS: my problem was with the two way valve.

Code 1457

code 1167 is "O2 sensor #1 heater heater circuit malfunction" from my manual...but new O2 sensors...hold tight...the PCM may erase this code soon...maybe re-calibrating for new sensors. try erasing the code after a couple more drive cycles

there are five thing to check
1. Gas Cap if it does not seal you will get this code
2. canister vent shut off value under the hood right side (2 wire) one with green/white wire going to it
3. 2 way value right side of the gas tank
4. vent pressure senser near the gas tank
5. bypass solenoind next to the 2 way value
