Question about 1982 Porsche 911
I have an 81 porsche 911 SC targa. The O2 is disconnected and the cat convertor is removed. When the engine is hot in stop and go traffic it will surge and then quit. When I crank it, the engine starts right up and will surge again then quit. If I keep it rev'd up it will continue to run. If I get out of the stop and go traffic and get moving it cools down and works good again. This has happened more than 3 times. I've checked all the wiring connections in the engine compartment and it's tight and clean. I have not moved to check the relays yet. I replaced the fuel accumulator a few years ago for a different problem. Any ideas?
I see someone said clean the throttle plate. This would only appy if the car is fuel injected. If it is fuel injected and the thottle was dirty inside the venturi the 02 sensor would see less air so the computer would give less fuel. But since you have the 02 sensor unhooked your running full rich all the time. I would suspect you have carbon buildup issues and fouled spark plugs.

This is most often caused by a dirtry/slugded up throttle valve, clean it with carb spray, really soak it, keep it running whiole spraying the carb cleaner in and around the throttle plate, it will want to die, when u have used about 1/2 the can shut the engine off, disconnect the battery and reconnect after 5 min's, drive it a few days it should clear the problem or make it allot better.
