Question about 2001 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

Consistant rough idling in colder weather

Almost consistant rough idling in colder weather (like a hick-up, and "Service Engine Soon" light does not come on). It feels like it will stall but it doesn't. It's worse when stopped while in drive.

Had sam eproblem. Gerage after gerage did not help at all. Stand infront of your car with bonnet open. On the lef hand side (standing infront of the car) between boddy an engine is a round black container, next to it is a small vacume switch, check the thin rubber pipes is conected, it can have a leak or like mine broke off. after fixing it my problem were solved. Ideling were up and down must be leaking vacume pipe. never bypass. if pipes is ok check and test vacume switch. Kia ideling is controlled by this small vacume switch !!!!! What a great car. Enjoy !!!! Please inform me if it did work. my e mail is wcbotha@yahoo.com.

What could be cause of cold weather stall and rough idle until engine warms

Check your EGR valve and system. EGR should not be on when engine is cold, if its on the car will run as you describe.

After unusual below freezing weather here in california my 94 prizm is idling really rough and sputters in gear what might be the problem

Sounds like water in the gas. Colder temperatures can lead to condensation in the gas tank. Water then enters the fuel line, causing sputtering, rough idle, and occasional stalling. Try a bottle of Dri-Gas or other similar product with your next fill up. If the problem persists, you may need to change your fuel filter.

3.4L engine stall at stops

do u have a check engine light coming on? if not the plugs are not the problem a miss will trigger a check engine/service engine soon light, most likely you have a dirty automatic idle speed control motor.

Rough ideal and stalls out

There are two likely possibilities: 1) Old/cracked Ignition system (spark) is being shorted out by water/humidity, 2) Carburetor icing.

1) This test is more effective if done at nighttime or in a darkened garage, as any spark arcing will be visible. Start the engine and let it idle. Use a spray bottle with water and mist your spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and ignition coil with water. If you see spark arcing or the engine starts to run rough or stall, there's your problem, replace the ignition component(s) involved.

2) If your problem only occurs during cold moist rainy weather (ie. 45 degrees or below), especially if it only happens during highway driving, you could have carburetor icing. There is a hose that runs from the exhaust manifold shield to the underside of the air cleaner housing. In colder weather a valve will draw heated air from around the exhaust manifold through this hose into the air cleaner to prevent icing. Either this hose is missing/disconnected or this valve is not working correctly.

Hope this helps!

Rough Idle - 1997 Cavalier RS 2.2L SFI-OHV 4-134

WEll it is possible it could be the idle air control. one the most comon problems is the fuel pressure regulator. To check it find the fuel rail the fuel regulator will have one vacuum hose on it remove the hose and check to see if it is wet with fuel if not have some one trun the key on or start the car if it leaks fuel out the regulator is bad. This would explain why its hard to start when it sits because it floods out the motor

System To Lean

We had a similar problem on our 1999 Windstar. Engine light stayed on from the day that we bought it. We tried O2 sensors (since that's what the used car guys told us it was) but that didn't fix it. Engine began to run rough and stall in colder, wet weather. My guru/mechanic finally discovered that it needed to have the intake gaskets replaced. Haven't seen the engine light in months... it feels kinda weird.

Truck losing power and service engine soon light on

Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.
