Question about 2001 Ford Escape

2 Answers

I have a 2006 Escape. My problem is when I go over 40 mph the car starts to stutter feeling like it is going to stall, but it doesn't. it is much worse when i am accelerating uphill. i have to keep accelerating to stop it from happening. i have new tires, a current tune-up with new spark plugs and the transmission fluid changed. happens after the car has warmed up, not when i first start to drive. please help!

Temperature is a bit of a key here but not much. Do you have or get any lights on the dash? Only guessing which is not what you want to hear, but no one can diagnose a vehicle without it present. The Throttle Position Sensor,EGR Valve are possibles. The loaded uphill condition would have me starting with the EGR. The EGR is not coming in to play when the engine is cold. You really need a complete diagnostic check of all the systems on your vehicle, with a professional scanner and scope feature. All ford veh are doing this even my lincoln L/S. You solve one and two months later, something else. I have been at this 45 years and it's more challanging every year

If you have the check engine light on, go to Autozone or similar business for a free scanner check of your computer. With luck, the scanner codes will reveal the exact part that is causing your problem. Good luck!

The tranny wont shift up in drive from third at about 40 mph the tranny starts to hesitate stutter. already changed oil filter and speed solonoid

just by your description (detailed) id say it could go a few directions ??4 a cause, one way is the 40 mph is near the speed that overdrive is engaged (42 mph) these do sometimes have problems inside them (gears ) also the stutter you mention is sort of an indication that your torque converter didn't lock up or is locking/.unlocking this is an indication of a immanent torque converter failure , if car was made past 2001 then chances are good it has some kind of transmission control system that could log a fault to help you look for a cause like a faulty speed sensor or something , ck your codes !!

Why does my 2006 Pontiac Montana feel like it kicks at 20-40 mph? - insert more words for faster question answering-

sounds like a bad motor or transmission mount try to step on the gas hard and release it quickly while in park do you feel the same thing if you do a motor mount is no good you'll see the engine twisting or raising up on one side the reason why I think its happening at slow speed is the transmission shifts gears and this lets the motor settle back down if not try with no body behind you quick acceleration then wait 5 seconds and hard stop when the car is stopped and you feel a bang from underneath the transmission mount is no good
