Question about 2004 Kia Spectra
Hello. Even though it seems like the alternator isn't working, I would rather you have the battery checked before you pay for an expensive alternator you may or may not need. You can take the battery to a shop and have them check it first, if it is discharged too much for them to check it, they can charge it and then check it. That way you will know for sure you have a good battery or need a new one. Then you should have the alternator checked to be sure it is charging properly. This is the best way to proceed since the alternator really isn't designed to charge a dead battery, but rather it is for keeping a good battery charged. Although many people do it, putting a new alternator and expecting it to charge a dead battery puts extra strain on the new alternator. I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
